Exhaust install

I just installed a new off road x-pipe on my 95 5.0L. When i started it up i got smoke coming out of the tailpipes, i couldn't tell what color since it was dark. Is this just from putting an offroad pipe on?

new pipes will normaly have oil on them and will smoke a little and have a burning smell till it burns off.

how strong would the smell be?

It's a packing oil the put on the exhaust parts from the factory to prevent them from rusting while they're sitting around in the warehouse or when they're being shipped. When I put on a brand new X-pipe and cat-back setup on my notch a few years ago, I drove the thing about a block away and was horrified by the sight of all this crazy smoke rolling out from underneath my car - looked like something had caught on fire. I couldn't actually find any one particular thing burning by sticking my head under the car at a stoplight, so I hauled butt back home. By the time I got back, the smoke was just about gone. However, one of those stick-on labels left on the exhaust from the factory was starting to turn black like it was burning/melting and making a funky smell. Peeled that off and it was all good after that.

Most likely just the oil inside and outside the pipe from production, mine did the same thing, give it a day of driving and check it.

new mufflers do that too. when I put exhaust on my ram it made this god awful smell and smoked for a few minutes.

Thanks for all the responses. I haven't drove it since i put the xpipe on so i'll drive it around and see if it goes away.
