Hey hey. I'm currently running 2 1/2" pipes straight back from the manifolds to my three chamber flowmasters with no h-pipe or X and no cats. Custom bent tailpipes with some huge 5" tips that are like 18" long. The tips make the setup way too loud for my taste. I don't have alot of cash to spend on a new exhaust setup but i really need to do something with it. I was looking at flowtech 1 5/8 long tube headers and flowtech offroad H or X. Is this stuff total garbage or what? What would you guys recommend for a budget exhaust setup? I'm also not sure wether i want to hack the tips off and try to find some straight 2 1/2" tips or buy new tailpipes alltogether. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

"5 inch tips"??,,LOL

lol, i know right??? They look like something you'd see at a monster truck rally. freakin' rediculous i'm tellin ya. i would like to mention that, I DID NOT DO IT! Lol, the exhaust was set up that way when i got it. Now, another question about the headers. I'm using these old crappy stock 289 manifolds right now. Are the flowtech's ok? i guess if i'm leaving the tailpipes and just getting straight tips that saves me a couple bucks. I can't seem to decide on a set.

An x-pipe would quiet it down the most.umm,,,,,5 inch tips? Thats a bit much. You can buy 2.5 Tails anywhere, the 3 chambered flows are usaully pretty quiet, keep them and get a pair of 2.5 tail pipes, and the x pipe, and it should sound pretty awsome, and the performance will improve also. "5 inch tips"??,,LOL

Personally, I think the 2.5" tips are outdated. While they looked decent from the factory back in the 80's, they just look puny by today's standards. I have been running a 2.5" system with 3.5" tips on my Fox for years now and I think they look just right and I have received many compliments. They certainly do not look out of place on my '85 GT and, if anything, provide a more menacing look from the rear. :nice:

But to each his own.

Those do look nice. You should see mine though, i mean they are REDICULOUS HUGE. lol. What's really bothering me is the noise level of my stang. The drone is killing me. I think if i ditch the tips it would make a huge difference. While i'm at it though, i really need to lose those old manifolds for some headers, and an X or H is a must have.

I'm closing on a new house tomorrow though, and that's a BIG chunk of change. I would like to get this exhaust done ASAP because like i said, the noise is killing me. It just has to be done on the cheap.

Hmm. i happen to have some stock headers from an efi stang. looking at them the look really crappy, all pinched up and ooogly. sounds like a good plan though. I like the 3 chambers definately keeping them. Thanks for the tips, i'll be shopping around :D.
