Exhaust on a California GT

I live in MN and just bought an 05 GT from CA. Currently the exhaust is running out the side. I am planning on running the exhaust out the back when I get the car.

Since this is a CA car with CA's emissions laws, is the exhaust different than a car that was sold in other states. If so what is different (cats, tuning, ???)

Just wondering if I need to get rid of the factory cats, and go with aftermarket or something.

I am looking to get an exhaust set up that will give me more hp, so any suggestions on setups would be appreciated.

Basically, I am not worried about passing any smog tests, since there is none in my state. What I am trying to find out is weather or not a california exhaust is different than a regular GT from another state. I am more concerned about performance here.

Side exhaust is obvisouly not stock on an '05. Just find out what mods the previous owner did. Most likely the stock cats were left alone in order to pass CA emissions. If they are the stock cats you can switch them to some aftermarket cats or no cats at all depending on state laws and your own preference.
