Exhaust..(Performance VS Sound)

hmm....the never ending debate...tell me what you guys think of this.

I have a 98 gt (which as some know has the upgraded exhaust mani that match the 99's ( so we're told ). I have BBK Off road H and 2 chamber flows dumped at the rear..now dont get me wrong it sounds Hella mean and loud and precise..specially when crusing fast as i call it.

well a lot of people say! i want that famous mustang sound and get 2 chambers and are like its not loud enough....i really wonder what the sound difference is between offroad h and x's catted or not.

When i first got my car my friend gave me his borla (non race) and they sucked 2 me..i mean they sounded ok at WOT but cruise and etc just yuck..so i took it back 2 the dealership and put on 2 chambers..and it sounded like that sound that u can hear from a mile away..when we put her on rams the exhaust tech. guy said to rev her..and he was like to me thats performace (this was with the borlas)...so i really wonder (see end)

Which do you guys prefer? X pipes or H pipes...keep in mind..that a catback is a catback sure..and headers are headers..but the sound still hasto past thru the mid pipe..catted or not..

my question is which one do yall like better! and which preforms better..x or h...---trey gsg

with LT and X and magnaflow is crazy gutsy sounding too

I think the best sound comes from a H-pipe. It gives it more rumble and deepness. Definetly with some cams. I did the X-pipe thing, Dr. Gas and Bassani, and was not really all that impressed.

I have heard a bunch of stangs in different combos so as far as sound goes my opinion is that O/R Hs and catted Xs sound the best. To go along with the H configuration, I love the flowmaster sound and with the Catted X - Bassani.
There have been many posts and articles that show that X's make more hp up top over the H design. It's not too significant with near stock cars, but on S/C'd or turbo'd ones, the difference can be quite a bit.
Where's that Magnaflow thread when you need it.

prochamber & flowpaths (longtubes if ya want ) sound amazing a prochamber gives you a nice mix between a X & a H pipe. i like the sound of it so much it's been on my last two stangs

a few years from now..when my baby is sc'd..yeah..magnaflow catted x, 2 chambers, and LTs...but for now, bbk offroad h people makes enough people in town druel..specially the 17 year old kids who could barely afford the note and insurance on there mustangs...yet alone to Mod---******* trey

I have american thunder with an o/r flowtech H. It sounds mean as hell and keeps the rice away. My original plan was to do MAC LT's , prochamber , and magnapacks. I have heard the magnapacks in person and they are mean sounding w/just the catback on a stock car. REAL deep throaty sound. More than 2 chambers. I also have been told by a penske mechanic/drag racer/friend that the H pipe will sound more rumbly while the X pipe will have more of an exotic sound. However, the X pipe will win in the upper RPM range over the x pipe BUT I don't think it's more than 2-3hp. I'd rather have the pissed off and full of rage sound of an H rather than the raspiness of an x.

Flows

I have a MAC off road H with flowmaster and i love how the car sounds and how it turns heads as i go by. And the car sounds mean as hell when i kick on the nitrous So i am a fan of the H

the difference can be as much as 10-15rwhp between an H and an X. i prefer the low end rumble of an H, but like the high rpm sound and power from my X.

X pipe has a smoother sound than the H pipe ...people say the H is deeper, but the X is plenty deep, just smooths out the note and gives it more of a race car scream rather than a burbling H pipe sound. Catted X with Flowmasters sounds mean ...and O/R X sounds even meaner ...but definetly go with X for sound and performance

offroad X, LT cermaic headers, and some straight through mufflers (dynomax (not the turbos), magnaflow, SLP) if you want performance.

1-2 ponies difference in any muffler. any aftermarket muffler will give you a little better flow over stock and thats all you need. The most restrictive part of the exhaust is the catback. Replace with a catless offroad pipe and you'll gain a good 8-12hp
