I have a set of Kooks long-tubes and a catted x-pipe and they produce a ton of heat. I want to use some exhaust wrap, but I'm curious if they might retain water and cause rusting. Thoughts?

Yes they probably will but that's not the only problem. Wrapping the exhaust doesn't allow the metal to dissipate heat, ultimately weakening it and potentially causing cracks later on.

That is not exactly something I'd like to do to my headers.

Mine are cheap Macs and they already had some little rust spots on them. I just painted the flanges with some light gray paint, then wrapped them. Came out decent for the first time doing it. My hands didn't feel so great when I was done though. Also, if you do wrap them and you want to use the SS ties like I did. Don't buy them from Summit they're around $2 a piece. Most local hardware places sell them for about $0.50 a piece.

How long have you had them wrapped?

@timjimmy For about 5 months now. Idk if it makes any difference in regards to moisture, but my car is kept in a garage and I don't have a cowl hood.

Your best option would be to have the headers ceramic-coated.

Have you had experience doing so?

Nope, but others seem to swear by it. Admittedly it doesn't come cheap though.

I've spent an awful lot of my supercharger money on not-my-supercharger...I'd need some specific feedback on temperature reduction before I threw down those bones.
