Experiences with AFR 185's?

Mild blower car 6-8psi from ported stockers to 185's and a crane 2030 cam saw 70hp increase. Boost dropped to 5psi too so they are efficient if you need the flow like my blower combo did. A mild N/A car is going to be dead until 3k with them.

What would determine if one should go with the 185's or 165's? I plan on getting some afr's but I don't want to go overboard to the point where it hurts the car. I do plan on going turbo later next year but I would have the heads put on first.
 
I was recently dynod w/afr 185's and made 295 rwhp w/a TFS stage 1 cam and track heat. 70mm tb,75mm Pro-m 1 3/4 longtubes and x pipe. I also did not have a groud wire where it should be which didnt allow my A/f ratio to really be messed with so it was fat as a pig(Tps was everywhere), the guys told me with it grounded and tuned should put around 310 to the wheels. BTW Uncorrected for the day i dynoed my car (The conditions for THAT exact day) it made 316 RWHp. Car will be blown and i am changing to a XE274 Cam thats why i went to the 185's. Later

well if you are planning for the future then that is a little different. honestly, until then though you will be a little low on the potential of what you will have, simply because you wont have everything to make those heads live up to their full potential YET. If you are sure that you are doing the turbo or blower then by all means do it, just dont be disappointed when your dynos and track times arent quite what you had hoped. Nothing wrong with that though as long as you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. no sense in buying heads twice if that is what you are definitely doing. like was mentioned above though, it will probably be really sluggish and weak below 3k. just the price you will pay for not having the support for the heads.

Otherwise you could save your money and buy more parts at once, or buy some of the smaller supporting parts now and the bigger stuff together later. then you wont really be that disappointed.

i just know that if you spend 1300 on heads and then dont feel the power it could be discouraging.

Its like before I got the 331 done and i still had the 306 with the stock heads and cobra intake and exhaust and rockers, i almost traded my 1 5/8 long tubes for some 1 3/4 long tubes, but it would have been a dog down low on torque. it would totally benefit me now, but i wasnt willing to give up the torque back then because i wasnt sure how long it would be until I redid the motor.

good luck. just make a plan and stick to it. it will work out eventually......

also....This Combo carried over 300ft.lb of torque from 3500 to 5100 and over 275lb.ft of torque from 2600 to 5800 w.max torque 313.87 @ 4100 and 295rwhp at 5650 rpm. Again this is with a far a/f ratio, estimated to make around 310 with the ground fixed.
