Is this intake comparable to a cobra intake? will i make power over a stock one? if so roughly how much? and is it a direct fit other than the thottle body adapter?

yeah i have an explorer intake. It sucks. The upper actually slightly outflows a cobra, but an explorer lower really sucks, it looks like a cobra, but dosent flow as whell.....its whats really holding my car back.

Well look at what kinda of cost we're talking about. You could probably find the Explorer for $150 (I did easily through the Arizona ARA). A Cobra will be at least twice that. Then for alittle more you can port/polish the lower. OR. . . find a used GT-40 lower for it. I thought the explorer lower was a GT-40 though

this is what i was thinking about doing, so the upper flows well? how much do you think it would cost to port the lower? is $150.00 worth it for the upper and lower explorer intake?

I gotta kinda agree with this...I ran the Explorer...did it add some sack?? yes it did...mid and upper changed alot...Its not the best looking upper Ford ever made..Its for a truck through...I ran it with the elbow....no likey and switched to a Fox set-up...I has Tmoss port the lower for me...
The Cobra is a nicer looking intake hands down...compared to it...

Painted up it will look better though..

Maybe I'm just crazy for not caring what it looks like Would you seriously spend a few hundred more for something that LOOKS cooler?? That's just me though. You can port the lower yourself. Tmoss could do it for pretty cheap but the GT40 lower has a pretty simple runner design so it wouldn't be too difficult.

There is NO difference in the GT40/Cobra/Explorer lower intakes.

so the explorer lower flows the same as the cobra lower? and if the explorer upper flows more than a cobra upper doesen't that make that combo better? also I used to be a painter by trade so painting the explorer would be no problem.

Basically, they all flow within a few cfm of each other - most diference in flow is due to casting quality.

I got to watch Tmoss port my explorer lower, he knows what he is doing with the gt40 lower as well for sure. Just watching him was a great learning exp.

it is a ugly intake due to the elbow thing. I cleaned my upper up a bit.

I have removed the front vac. hard line. I also sanded and smoothed the elbow to help it look alittle better.

Thanks! I don't think it's ugly at all. Function before form - my mantra.

I stripped and bead blasted mine then cleared it with 500° clear engine enamel.

Elbow thing?

I got the Explorer intake (ported) on my 347 stroker. I painted it the same color as my car. I also have red plug wires and lots of other red accents under the hood. Looks good, I think. Plus at a glance people think its a stock one and I just tell them I have a mean cam but a stock motor, then I take their money Here's my dyno from the other day, naturally aspirated.

Our 94-95's need to use an elbow to use the stock t-body that gen. looks kinda goofy.

THAT is what a properly ported Explorer intake can do even on a 347ci engine. Beautiful torque curve - lots of area under the curve.
