There really is a difference between the two. I've had both in hand at the same time and the lower port to head opening is certainly different. Maybe not something that will make any difference when you are porting them but in stock form the GT-40/Cobra lower is larger.

Not in the majority of the ones I've ported Troy, but I have noticed a FEW Cobra lowers that had slightly larger runners. I've been curious about why that is too - more than one master mold?

And as you said, I doubt very seriously they would put up better HP numbers on the same car - and that was my point in my statement.

Do you have pics of it intalled. I was thinking of paint matching mine also.

I got the Explorer intake (ported) on my 347 stroker. I painted it the same color as my car. I also have red plug wires and lots of other red accents under the hood. Looks good, I think. Plus at a glance people think its a stock one and I just tell them I have a mean cam but a stock motor, then I take their money Here's my dyno from the other day, naturally aspirated.

Not at the moment but I can take one and post it. It is at my builders house getting the rear rebuilt. I'm suppose to pick it up tonight.

i picked up an explorer intake upper, and lower. I was going to port the lower to match the runners on my heads (GT40p's) but they're only 2mm's difference. I'm going to keep it like it is until i can port the heads out, and get a better intake, OR port the explorer. I have considered TMOSS porting it, but no money for that right now.

Don't bother messing with the intake - put it on and run it.

I found some pics I had taken during the install. This was before the car was done. The car had been sitting for months and is dirty and horrible looking, so PLEASE don't trash it.

Here is my explorer intake that i polished. I think its a nice looking intake but it flows horrible....whell, i mean the size diffrence that is between the gt40p heads and that lower is quite a large amount, about 1/4+" all around the ports! i compared them directly using a gasket and i was really suprised, and i think that is one of the reasons my caronly made 270 to the wheels! anyhow, if you port it then, i agree 100% that its a great intake.
