I was wondering what these are worth, what price would be considered a good deal? I was browsing through the wrecking yard this morning and found a 98' Explorer upper/lower intake. Emissions aren't an issue in my area, so EGR passages aren't a big concern to me.

If the price is right, what else should I grab with the intake? It's a CFC vehicle so I assume the heads are ruined.

Thanks,

Jeremiah

I got mine off a burned mountaineer.. I paid like 25 bucks for it.. I think they normally go for like 50-100 bucks? I may be totally wrong though.

Price has come down a lot since there are so many available. Last Exploder made with the 5.0 was 2000...so 10- 14 years means a lot are off the roads and flooding the junkyards.

I've seen heads go for $200 and Intakes for less than that..maybe $100-150. A lot of guys buying them at the yards get them for even less than that

But craigslist lists them higher because to put it simply, people are stupid, I wouldn't pay more that what 5l5 said, although the
non-p heads still seem to go for $300ish in my area

They want $110+tax, which would be about $118. I think I'll check back in a week or two and offer them $100 out the door and see if they'll take it.

I paid $59.50 for a complete upper and lower Exploder intake out of a pick-n-pull in the San Fernando valley. I also paid $60 total, for a complete pair of "P" heads off the same vehicle.

Motor can't be sold, trans and rear end can be sold but must be sold to seperate parties. And then the body is parted out. Motors are supposed to be crushed. But some junkyards may not follow the rules very well

I was in a yard today and saw a few CFC cars with people picking parts off them.

Even saw a bottle of the "liquid glass" used to seize up the engines...how sad.

One car was an early 00's Mountaineer. It was in GREAT shape. Sad they trashed it

at the PNP here about 40% of the cars are now CFC cars. 3 of them v8 explorers. what a shame. there was also a GTP, a very nice Bronco, and probably one of the cleanest nissan 240's ive ever seen

Just a head up, surfing CL and found at least 3 sets of Explorer intakes for ~ $100 complete.

I picked up an '97 Explorer Intake complete, w/internal EGR for $75

Like i said, the market is FLOODING with these intakes and you can get them dirt cheap. I actually needed only the lower intake so i could port it and then swap it out with my Cobra lower...but i figured i'd get the entire intake for the same price as a used Cobra lower and then sell off the upper.

You gotta find a junkyard that has set prices, not a junkyard that decides what to charge you by what you look like. My local junkyard has a set price list, like 25 bucks for any aluminum intake, 50 bucks for an iron head, whether its a gt40p or the crappiest head you can find.

I wanna clean my lower up before i send it out to get ported, but idon't want to sandblast out of fear of getting sand behind the baffle

a pair of vice grips will pull out the studs holding the baffle. when you are done blasting/painting tap the holes and put the baffle back on with bolts.
