The stock Explorer 5.0 had 210 hp. I doubt changing the cam is going to net a 90 hp increase. Most likely in the 235 hp range (just like the Cobra).

The stock explorer 5.0 had 215 hp and a low end cam that killed the power. Keep in mind too the computers were setup differently and were not necessarily setup for power. Hell, the 93 cobra's computers are notoriously power killing…and the cam is known to be less than ideal as well. Add to that the exhaust is a giant cork on the explorer (if you have seen one…you'll know what I'm talking about) and there is some serious power gains to be had. Now, perhaps not a 90h/p increase…but I most definitely could see laying down 230-250 to the wheels give or take. Add a drivetrain loss of ~15% and your up into the 280+ bhp range.

The spec I looked at said 210 but anyway...

I said a cam change would't add 90 hp and I'm right. Now if we start changing computers, cam, valve springs, exhaust systems etc. you will pick up more power. But now we're also spending considerably more money too. We're also going well beyond simple bolt-ons like pullies and setting timing.

And I didn’t argue with that. There I simply stated that the explorer engine is far more capable than you made it out be. Yes, 90 h/p is a tad far fetched…but 70 h/p is not out of reach with the simple changes I stated.

Spending considerably more money how? We are talking about swapping a v8 explorer motor into a fox mustang which has a better computer and exhaust already. A cam swap can be done for cheap as stock cams are a dime a dozen…especially if you use the one out of the old engine. The stock explorer springs should have no issue with a mustang cam.
