I was wondering if a rear end out of a 99 explorer would fit into my 88. I know that I would have to redo the brake lines since mine are drums and the explorer are disc but besides that how are would it be.

From what I recall, the suspension mounting points are not the same at all. Isn't the older Exploder a leaf style, then they went to an independent style several years ago.

The only direct drop in fits are a 86-98 Mustang, 87-88 Turbocoupe (needs quad shock mods), 86-92 Mark VII (housing only, no quad shock mounts, brakes & axles make it 2.5" wider)

Too bad some one was wanting to trade that rear end with 4.11 gears for one with lower gears (I guess they want better gas mileage)

It's leaf springs...won't work. I also beleive it has an offset pumkin as well.

The brakes are internal drum parking brake and disk service brakes

On a good side....the Explorer rear is the perfect width for a '67/'68 Stang. We put one in my friend's '67 coupe. We just moved the perches, routed the brake lines, ready for action. It was a 3.73 Locker rear with discs.

The Explorer read ends are about 2" wider than a fox rear end..... and no, the center section is not offset, its centered.... I had three of these sitting around from when I used to build Explorers and did all the measurements and all.. if you didn't mind being a little wider though, it wouldn't really be THAT hard to get it to work..... cut off spring perches, and weld on the control arm brackets from your other rear end.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

The differential, ring gear, and pinion will all work, but the housing is a negative.

There is a guy selling a rebuilt 3.73 rear end out of a 90 GT for 350 so I will probably go with that.
