I am thinking about buying an 08 GT conv and was wondering what some of you were paying for extended warranty. Also, would you consider an auto over a 5 speed.I have driven a 5 speed for some time now and drove the 08 with an auto and was surprised in how well it shifts.

I didn't buy the exended warranty as I was given the 5/50K deal @ no charge when I bought last August. As far as the auto is concerned, get a tune that eliminates the throttle lag and it is pretty damn fun to drive. If manualy shifting is your deal, stick is the only way to go. I wanted the manual, but was forced to get the auto if I wanted the VB/Dark Charcoal combo. I have not regretted the choice. The only thing I miss is being able to rev it a few times before letting out the clutch.

I didn'y buy the warranty either, especially since Ford upped the standard warranty to 5/50. Transmission choice is purely a personal one, both in preference and in what type of traffic you'll be driving in. I like manual transmissions because I like the way it feels to row the gears and I like the control I get over engine rpm and speed. Any time I bought an automatic I always regretted it and wound up trading the car. But I don't live in a congested area and don't have a lot of traffic to deal with. If I were in a large city I might think differently and chose an automatic. That being said, I test drove both a manual and automatic and I was very impressed with the way the automatic shifted, but not enough to choose it over the manual.

I sat in one with a manual. Being 5'6" the seat had to be pretty close up for me to get the clutch all the way down. With the seat close up, my knee hit the bottom of the dash. Putting the seat in a lower position made me feel I was sitting in a 77 Monte Carlo.

I had a fox body with a manual and traded it in for the blue car. With lower back and knees hurting, dead-stop uphill traffic congestion and reversing uphill to parallel park were among a few issues for me with a manual. It was hella fun to drive otherwise.

I bought an extended warranty and I'm finding my dealer is pretty strict about mods. I might have to put my stock airbox back on otherwise they'll void the warranty.

I feel I have less control with an automatic but above situations dictate....... A tune would be nice but I dont think I can consider it for warranty reasons.

best advice i heard is to not buy one. you can buy it up to the day before the warranty runs out, and it won't cost you any more (at least if you can negotiate well enough). by the time warranty comes, you'll know if your car is a problem car and how likely it will be that you'd need that warranty. plus you aren't screwed if you mod the car :)
