Greetings All, I just picked up an 89 GT for my son. I have noticed that the steering is extremely quick and very light. Is this normal for this particular type of vehicle? It has had a suspension kit and lowering springs installed (type unknown) There is no slop, and everything seems to be in proper working order. Is there a way to take some of the sensitivity out of it?

Don’t quote me but they are naturally light. I think the fox rack is a 20:1 ratio where as if you ‘upgrade’ to a newer sn95 rack they are 15:1 so you get a little heavier feel.

I’m currently in the process of doing this upgrade as I type. Using a GT rack out of a 2004 I believe.

Fox sport racks are 15:1. It's not uncommon for someone to accidentally swap in a 20:1 rack from a 4 cylinder car. Happens quite often because when you look up these cars in parts computers it still lists both racks for every model.

20:1 rack would be 3 turns lock to lock. A 15:1 rack would be about 2.5 turns lock to lock. Good way to try and tell which one you have.

Sn95 rack would be an upgrade. Still 15:1 but a lot better valving. 2004 GT/Cobra would be the rack to see out but you'll need other parts as well (hybrid rack adapter)

The torsion bar in the Fox racks is less stiff than the SN95 rack. This is the difference between them.
