Not exactly mustang related but I hope you can help. I'm wondering if a 2500 stall converter would be enough for a f303. It would be in a 94 lighting with a10:1 351 mass add converted running a mustang a9p computer. It currently has a e303 with a 1800 stall and I have the tranny out replacing the converter with a 2500 stall and new front pump. I have the f can brand new and always though the e was on the very small side in the 351. I think the f would work better with the heavily ported Windsor Jr. Heads and the gt40 upper and lower then the e would. Thanks for any input. Please no flames about the alphabet cams it would be a free swap for me.

Ford racing recommends a "high stall" convertor with the f cam. It does not specify how high. I think a 2500 would work though.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

I would say 2500minimum. Why the f cam though? Much better grinds out there.

I know there are better cams I'm just saying comparing the e to the f the f would make more power in my set up that's all

If it's free why not? The e303 will be lumpy in a 302 but in a 351 it is on the mild side. The f303 will work better for you in my opinion, as it is a larger cam in a larger cid.

I don't think the 2500 stall will be too small for it either . I'm thinking the f should make a little more power and pull harder

If you look into the cam card and see what the power range for the cam is, this will give you a ballpark on the low side. Fwiw 2500 stall is what I ran in my aod with a e303 and she pulled hard.

I believe the f is 2800-6000 in a 302 so the extra cubic inches in the 351 might make it about 2500 and up which would be perfect

I'd call a good converter guy like PTC and send the your specs, but I am thinking 2600-2800

I think Mike has the best advice, but it sounds like you are wanting to use the stuff you already have. The 351 is 14% larger than the 302. In theory, that would bring the 2800 rpm power band down to around 2400, which is right in your ball park. Is this the ideal setup? Probably not, but it should work just fine.
