fabricating brake caliper brackets?

I need suggestions on what thickness of material I should use to fabricate brake caliper brackets. I found two working sets of Kelsey Hayes 66 Thunderbird calipers and 12.15” rotors at the junkyard the other day, but between the costs of the calipers, rotors, turning, and wheels I just bought I am a poooooor man , so I can’t afford Cobra Automotives brackets!!!! I can get hold of a few pieces of 3/8” plate steel. Would that be thick enough to be safe? Could I go thinner, say 1/4” ?

3/8' should be fine. don't use the 1/4' as it's likely to twist when the brakes are applied. i need a set of those myself.

I used gussetted 1/4" plate for my bracketry. FWIW, I am comfortable with the arrangement.
