Fabricating patch panels.

Me and a buddy are about to start addressing some of the rust issues on my car. Normal spots such as front and back of rear fenderwells and some small holes in the floor pans. What gauge steel do I need to get to perform these repairs? I can get a 20 gauge sheet for about $11.

tlak with the supplier in the area and see if they have any "automotive" sheet metal. Its the same gauge but its more pliable...plyable....playable.....

I looked up some floorpans on the net...

They appear to be 19 gauge, 20 gauge would be just a little thinner?

floorpans are pretty solid though...at least the ones we put in the camaro are. i looked last night and the stuff we use is 20ga.

the floors and rockers i got are 18 guage, the body panels are bit thinner i think.

measure a good spot (not near a form since the metal may have been shrunk or stretched) on the original panel and try to patch using a similar gauge of steel.
