Anybody installed a Ford factory navigation system in an 05 mustang?

I bought one and had it programed for my 05, when I get some time in a few days it's going in. The guy that did the programing for me said it is a 50-50 shot that it will work with out error codes in a 05. There doesn't seem to be a lot of data on the net about this install.

I would like to get a factory unit to work because I like the one in my F150, and a couple of weeks ago somebody smashed a window in my wife's '07 Town Car to steal the Garman 680 out of it. I had left it parked on a street in Chicago for 15 minutes. The Mustang is a vert we only use in the summer (13,000 miles so far) and the top is seldom up.

You can get the factory units on ebay for as little as five hundred bucks. Programming by a radio shop cost me $100. If this works, it will be about half the price of a Pioneer D3, which is plan B.

The only thing that I can see being a problem is hooking it up, being Nav wasn't an option until 2007 there may not be a proper connector in the wiring harness, if you're lucky it hooks up the same way as the Shaker radio and if it's a stand alone unit all it needs is power, ground and signal.

ask Poopdawg on the board as he tried to put one in his 07, I don't think it was 100% though after the full install. He may be able to answer some questions for you though.

Here is the short of it:

Cars produced BEFORE the midpoint (no definite date) of the 2007 run, WILL have a error everytime you use the nav - but it will still work (2005, 2006 and the first part of 2007 will get that error). After 2007.5 there was a new instrument cluster, and the nave will work perfectly with no errors (so long as you have the "new" cluster)

All the radios are the same, it is the programing that is different. Few places reprogram them. But there are sources where you can buy takeouts pre-programmed for your specific car and options...

Yep. I tried and failed. It all fits perfectly and the wires plug right in... But my nav did not work. Would not pick up signal. Some said I needed to bring it to the dealer and have it programmed...but I was at my wits end. So I sold the system. The sound quality also really sucked compared to the Shaker 500. There was way too much mids (not adjustable) and not enough tremble. I think that programming it might have fixed that though.

Where is the receiver on the 08s? I can't imagine it uses the same antenna as the satellite radio. Could part of the problem be that it lacks the antenna??

I would sell that and get an aftermarket pioneer... Be MUCH less of a headache.

Check out the AVIC-z1 or AVIC-z2. They are dope

I had an antenna also. The factory mounts it under the dash. It still didn't work.

PDawg brought up a GREAT point about the sound, it SUCKS compared to the factory shaker 500. I test drove an '08 w/nav and the 500, my '07 sounded much more crisp... Maybe it is the radio? I figured something was wrong with the car I was in

Thanks for the scoop. It looks like I'm headed for plan B.
