So I have been on a quest for some time looking for the factory Sirius module that works with the Shaker 500. Ford won't sell me one and you have to find a guy who can get Ford parts and sell them out the back door apparently. Why???


Anyway, some online places have them for $350 plus shipping. I got one off of Ebay for $250 and when I activated it, it came with 7 months free service. So in the end I paid $130 for everything.

I am posting about this in case anyone was waffling about buying one off of Ebay or where ever. It sounds great, controls easily through the stock radio, and all the display names work.

I love it.

I ordered my new GT/CS with the Sirius option. I think you get a month or two free, then you have to pay. I'm curious as to whether or not I will opt to keep paying for it. Is it worth the cost? I listen to a lot of CD's.......

I quit listening to CDs after getting Sirius. No reason to.
I now have an aftermarket head unit with ipod controls. No reason at all to listen to CDs and I don't have to contend with the faulty Shaker (Skipper) 500.

You get 6 mos. free when it comes w/ the car. Once you have it you will never go back, I used to laugh at people that paid for radio until I owned it. No commercials!

do you know if this is hard wired for sirius only? I have XM and was looking install this and use it with my XM. Do you know what the part or model number is?

I don't know how much of an impact this has on your question, but Sirius and XM just merged like last week. So soon enough, they will be one.

I have a windshield mount Sirius unit and I agree, who ever thought paying for the best radio on radio would ever take off as it has? I love mine, the CD player still works too.

Yeah I knew that they merged last week and I have had XM for over a year and love it. The reason I ask is that I have XM in my 99 now and am going to buy an 05 and want to know if I will be able to hook it up if I buy that unit for the Shaker 500. Prolly not though, you know how that stuff goes.

well it's hard wired as much as Ford made it so. meaning it's designed for the Shaker radio only. It comes with a harness that has multiple connectors that go in to the back of the Shaker unit. Unless they make a XM one at some point, Sirius is it.

Install was a breeze as I paid $50 to have some one do it for me.

I just found that out. And, I spent half the day sitting in my new ride checking out all the channels and programming my favorites. It sounds great and having no commercials is priceless. I suspect my CD purchases may curtail a bit, but not go away completely as I have several other rides with no Sirius...........for now.......

My six months just ran out on my 07 GT. I renewed for another 18 months. If you ever listened to Memphis radio, Sirius is a God send. I for sure hooked, I will never buy another auto without it.

I wish there was one that worked with the 1000....

For now I'll just stick with the 40 dollar one I've been using for over a year now....

Sirius and XM have not merged. The FCC must approve because such a merger under existing law is not permitted.
The merger has only been proposed. It will be the best for all if the merger happens because neither company has yet made a profit.
Attorneys are going to have to convince the Federal Communications Commission that it is in the public's best interest to permit the merger.
An aftermarket radio that will work with either and also accomodate ipods, etc. can be purchased for as little as $100. Mine cost $299 and has all controls in dash as well as a display that tells you playlists, artists, songs, etc. for your ipod.
Ford cannot match that price. The quality is also better than Ford's.

I think it only works with the Shaker 500s from 2007 on, when Ford started offering it. If you can find a 2007 Shaker 500 on Ebay for cheap, might be worth it.
