I passed the carbon monoxide portion but failed for hydrocarbons.
Standard is 220ppm...I tested at 988ppm w/o cats.
However, I still have my stock H pipe which I am going to install and test again.
Last year I tested with the same O/R H and the results were:
Standard 220 and I tested 73.98ppm.
The prior year I tested with the stock H and the results were:
Standard 220 and I tested 32ppm.
Anyone think the stock H will get me there?
Any other ideas to help pass?

Thanks

BTW...I already know the "B" is not emissions legal.

I passed my final test with the set up in my profle (like yours with no s/c) with a Magnaflow catted H, no thermactor system, and a bad TFI that gave me a crappy idle with no access to 3k+ rpm; but they only did an idle test.

I would try to get it to pass with the stock pipe first, make sure you drive the car to operating temps. You could try new O2's, oil change/tune up crap, clean the egr... if you still run it. They also have some stuff called Guaranteed to pass at the parts store. I never used it, but the company will reimburse you for the bottle if the car fails.

back your timing down a bit, lower your fuel pressure, add some acetone to your gas 1 oz per 4 gallons. It will cut your hydrocarbons down. The stock H should work well too. As mentioned above though make sure you drive the car for a good while to get the cats nice and hot.

I heard that the acetone is supposed to increase you gas mileage, but they tested it on Mythbusters and proved it to be wrong, I think it was a little worse. I never heard about using acetone for emissions, but if it makes your mileage worse then I would assume it wouldnt help emissions.

I tried running acetone in my escort just because I could, and I didnt see any difference in gas mileage.

I've run it before. No noticeable gain in mileage, but I did notice all the black sooty stuff that usually accumulates on my bumper all but vanished. It should help with the hydrocarbons enough bring your level down.

fastfox86, I really don't want to mess with the tune if I don't have to. I guess I can record the fuel pressure and put it back and do the same with the timing.
I'm hoping I can find the acetone and use that along with the stoch H.
Anyone know where to find this stuff?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Now I have a few things to work with.

You can get acetone from anywhere that has a paint section, auto parts stores, wal mart...

It's actually just paint thinner.

I do this all the time. get 90% or higher since the lower stuff has a ton more water in the mix.

you will probably pass with the stock H-pipe, but you might pass even more with a new H-pipe with converters.
