my fan on my 93 lx runs only when i have the AC on if not it shuts down, it's been like that since i bought it so i'm thinking the last owner did something to it.
Any suggestions ??

try to check where your AC wires are.. and check where your fan wires are going, if the last owner does something you'll see it easily.

The easiest way to repair you fan will be to install a switch.. But it won't be automatic.. if you want it automatic try to find the original place of the fan wires...

the engine has to pretty hot before fan comes on. unplug ECT and see lf fan comes on. if it does may have bad ECT sensor.

well i live in miami florida and trust me it gets hot here, and the car does tend to overheat if i don't have the AC on because of all the stop and go driving i do while it's constant 85 to 90 degrees out, like i said if i turn off the AC the fan turns off. I'm thinking it's probably rigged somewhere but i don't know where to start looking

Not saying that you dont have a problem, but on my car the fan does not kick on until the temp Gauge is reading about 3/4 of the way up, The fans dont kick on during normal driving very often. I would start the car up and let it idle in the sun, With no air flow it should get to temp pretty quick and watch for the fan to kick on. If it touches the red and it doesnt kick on, then you may need a new fan temp switch.

Dr.

BTW the fan ALWAYS runs when the A/C is on. That is normal.

then i need it because i have taken the temp to the red, and the only thing that will turn the fan on is the AC, IE... when i drove to NY last winter it must have been negative something (at least that's what a building read) and with the AC on the fan would still run.

Heck I set there and watch my car boil over and the fan never came on once I didn't think anything at all about it being parked that long I just assumed the fan would kick on and right when I put her in drive out came the steam Now if the fan always comes on with the A/C than I no something is wrong because its never came on at all period I got my A/C unpluged at the compressor clutch since my A/C has issues when running, does this have to be pluged up for the fan to work right? I unpluged it since everytime I cut my heater on some reason the A/C clutch would engauge. Now I still got hot air though. Sounds like some weird crap uh Everything except the CAI under the hood looks un touched, so I don't think someone rewired anything.

the A/C fan clutch must be engaged for the fan to kick on with the A/C,.. At least thats how my car is. But if it isnt kicking on during normal Operation (hot days sitting at a stoplight) then something probably is wrong.

I'm wondering if I have to have the A/C clutch pluged up for the fan system to work. I mean with it unpluged is there a open circut? I guess the thing to do first is run a jumper to the battery and make sure the fans works period. Then chase down the fan wires and see where they run to.

the fan automatically turns on whenever the AC is running. thats the same no matter what. nothing wired special there. It will run continuosly as long as the AC is still on.

the fan also turns on sometimes when the defroster is on and the AC clutch is engaged. And will only run when the clutch is engaged

the fan is also supposed to turn on when the engine temp reaches a certain temperature.

if your car hasnt overheated meaning steam shooting out and coolant all over the ground i think your ok. otherwise just wire a switch or a hot wire thats hot when the engine is on. when your fan doesnt come on at all is when you have the problem. I'm on my third fan. busted blade - engine overheated coolant all over, burned up motor and fusable link - lots of smoke from the seized fan motor, now I'm running one out of a grand am and so far so good.
