The boss 429 owns the strip and if corners are what you want I would say the boss 302 is the best there.

the 429 comes alive towards the end of the quarter... a past member of this site had an example of a 69 Mach 1 with a 428 CJ and a Boss 429... said the 428 was slightly faster in the quarter but the Boss would suck the doors off the Mach as it flew by soon thereafter...

I don't know about the 1/4 mile, but on a track I don't see how other mustang could beat this.

none will really have a good 0-60 time, I think the BOSS 302 was in the 6-7 second range. These cars really cant hook up good enough stock to get there that fast.

Well, think of it this way, the 71-73 body cars were almost purpose built for trans-am style road racing, wide track for cornering, long wheel-base, and aero-dynamics for straights. The 71 boss-351 was the FASTEST AMERICAN PRODUCTION CAR for years! as far as top speed, I've personally watched one that was concours stock hit 160mph at seattle international raceway, with a 4 speed top loader, and 3.91 gears on re-pop bias ply tires, AND the guy had to let off the gas cause it fish tailed at 145, better tires and people said he'd have hit 165. Remember the 351C is a boss 302 with 49 more CI My car hits 0-60 in 4.5 with little more than modern tires, a carb, intake and headers...But as far as stock ass stock, 390's and 351 are real fast with "lighter"weight.

I believe that honor went to the 67 GT 500 at 4.8 seconds.

Anyway, let me re phrase the question (the original question) like this:
Think that that you are on your way the the store or whatever, and suddenly you haft to stop because there is a red light. You are driving a Boss 429 and then it comes three other stangs, one is a 67 GT 500, one is a 71 Boss 351
and the third is a 69 Mach 1 with a 428 cj. You say: "I'll race all of you to the store", "ok", they say (You think you are the obviously winner because you have the big bad boss 429),
but would you smoke them or would you be smoked?
If you have any suggestions of other cars, feel free to add them.
And yeah, I know the question is FUBAR.

who gets to the store first? How far is the store from the stop light? The winner might not be the one with the fastest 0-60 or 1/4 mile but the one with the disk brakes. Of those mustangs you mentioned, those with drum brakes would probably shoot right by the store as they would be unable to stop.
