Fed up with crappy 4.6

If you haven't already, get rid of that crappiest intake manifold ever designed (96-98) and swap it out for a later PI manifold. That right there would up your N/A power output considerably, never mind what it will do for a blown car. And for god sakes, leave your BLING, BLING at home and get yourself a set of 15' V6 rims and a set of ET Streets!

Dont give up on it yet, you just need to have that same patience a little longer and get the car tuned. It will all be worth it when you get that done. Then you need to work on those launches. That 2.5 60 fter isnt just hurting you, its killing you. I dont even think Id try to get back to the track, just look for a dyno somewhere, no matter if you have to drive 3 hrs or what, Id rather do that then have to buy a brand new shortblock.

If you don't have a shop near you, your best bet would be to give Modular Powerhouse (formerly T&J Performance) a call and have them do you a chip. They use the SCT software and people are getting excellent results from it. It's probably the most well respected shop talked about on this site. Customer service is excellent! DO NOT TRUST THE CHIP THAT CAME WITH YOUR KIT!!! They suck. Tim's tune will get you a lot more power. He will do whatever it takes to make sure you are satisfied. He's on this board and several others all the time (Cobra Killer). Do it!!! You won't be sorry.

As a matter of fact I just placed my order with them today.

dang, the total i have in my car (car included) is only $11000!

i had a 96 that was a dog and modding it was so expensive that i decided to sell it and buy a 95.

so i sold the 96 vert for $8k and bought a 95 vert for $7k, did the heads and intake for $1500. cam will cost another $500 total. all that is with the labor charges. the thing is a beast.

compare that to like $3000 for a ported pi headswap with cams.

so i am saving myself $2000 going this route, which means i can buy more goodies for my ride, like a tweecer, new speakers, rims, ...

No offense but...Ever thought it might be the device that works the pedals? ie. the driver?

Yeah i agree, that car should be going much faster than 14.4 man.
Also, the only mod thats worthwhile, AND the only mod you haven't done is the PI HEADSWAP!! :nonono: Do this, and some exhaust. THEN you'll see some results. :nice:

good point. the lower intake is the most restrictive piece in the 96-98 cars (interestingly enough, the lower intake is the most restrictive in the 5.0's too) i have read that the 96-98 heads actually flow pretty well at the higher rpms, if the air can get to them.

Actually, I was the one who made the lower intake comment, but that's ok. :D

What kind of springs do you have? What kind of LCA's are they? There are several other factors invloved that could be potentially hurting you too.

If your car is being set up to carve corners, don't expect to go in a straight line as fast as equally modded or even lesser modded cars that aren't set up like you. It takes far more power to get you into those low ET's with the wrong set up's. And since the tune thing has been beat to death, I'll leave that be, that's a given.

Those 18's aren't doing ANYTHING good for you when going down the 1/4. The highest size wheel you'd ever want to sport on a drag strip is a 17. Even then, that's not the best choice.

Man you guys are asking a lot of questions lol.
Upper and lowers are Mac.
I know that my 60ft is not good, im really not a bad driver. I have timeslips with 1.9 60ft's on my 18's. Im going to run the slicks but Im afraid to launch it had in fear of tearing the tourque boxes or snapping an axle.
I need a dyno tune im aware of that, what do they usually run? 600? Also the boost guage is hittin right at 9lbs at almost redline.

On a side note I had the bearings in my altenator go bad today so it seized up on me. Ive never seen that before. I the bearing went bad and allowed the shaft to slip back farther into the armature causing the pulley to rub the caseing. Easy fix though because our altenators are right there on top.

Oh yah to who ever said they wanted my car $20,000 and i will drop it off to you lol. It just turned 50,000 miles the other day :'(

How much horsepower should I put out with a tune?
