Fenderwell CAI and rainy street and daily driven

I just installed my JLT CAI, and I'm a little worried that when I drive with alot of water on the roads that my filter and intake will take on water. Should I be worried about it? All the splash guards and stuff are ok so it seems pretty well protected but I'm afraid just a little water on the filter will cause some major problems. Anyone got any experiance with this?

You will be fine.

Unless you are driving thru like 4" or more of standing water you wont have an issue.

Vortech places the filter in the fenderwell (pretty low actually) in thier kits. so- its fines

I've driven my dad's Bullitt in the rain. He has a BBK cold air intake. The filter sits higher in the fender well. The Bullitt doesn't have fog lights like the GTs do. If you go through a big puddle and your intake sits too low in the fender well you will be in danger of hydro locking.

My friend has an RSX that is slamed and his intake sits WAY low in the fender well. He doesn't drive it in the rain anymore.

Basically what I'm saying is that you should use yer common sense, if the intake is low as hell in yer fender well then I'd be careful about it. If its fairly high up like the BBK setup I'd imagine you are perfectly safe unless you drive through a seriously deep area (and what the hell would you be driving through water that deep for anyways ?).

you shoudl be fine.

even driving through standing water at high speeds the water isnt going to splash forward and defy the laws of physics and make its way into the filter, maybe a few drops will splash onto the filter but you would have to submerge the whole filter in water for the motor to hydrolock.

if youre really paranoid, fabricate some sort of splash guard that fits under the filter, so any water splashing from below hits that piece. you can get sheetmetal and brackets at home depot, take off the fender and fab something up for a few bucks.

IMO i wouldnt worry about it unless you drive through 1 feet of standing water on a daily basis. if the water is that deep to get sucked into your filter at 2mph that is at least 2' above the waterline at all times, you shouldnt be driving through it.

I have the AFM Power Pipe......sits about 6 inches off the ground........never had any problems in the rain or small puddles............never taken it through big puddles though.........

yeah the vortehc is really low. the fender liner sort of blocks water, so the tire wotn splash any up. i ahd the same ocncern, but haevnt had any issues yet with mine, adn we have had some pretty good rain

I'm assuming from his name that he has a Bullitt. Remember that the Bullitt Mustangs did not come with fog lights. If he doesn't have anything there he is more suceptable to having water come up through the fog light hole then a GT or even a V6, since most V6 Mustangs don't have the slats cut out.
