I bought my 1986 LX a year and a half ago and I am planning on a few modifications. Nothing too major, just paint, tail lenses, wheels, and a few unimportant vanity upgrades. But I have a few questions that I cant quite find a clear answer to.
Can I replace my tail lenses with any year fox body lenses?
Would I have to make any changes to the fenders or wells to replace my 14" stock rims with 16" chrome?
Can anyone give me a price or estimate on a quality tint job for this year?

Thats about it guys, thanks for any info on any subject.

Not a fox expert, but I'm pretty sure the tailights are interchangeable. I would keep the '86 tails or go to newer LX tails. Please don't go with '87+ GT tails.

Tint should be around $150 for a decent job.

Xaranthu can help you out on the wheel size. He was running 16x7.5 V6 wheels on his SVO before it was killed by some idiot.

I was originally going to rice it out, because it was kinda big around here about a month ago. I finally came to my senses.

Whats wrong with the 87+ lenses? Im not lookin for Altezzas or Euros, Im looking for basic light covers. Im going to make some clear plexi covers for my headlights, and I was looking for a good compliment.

The LX lenses are fine. But the "cheese-grater" GT lenses should be left in the early 90's.
The only difference in 87+ and yours thought should be the amber turn signal.

Just remember fox bodies have 4lugs, so putting SVO or 4th gen wheels won't work without a bolt pattern/brake change. I'm sure you're probably looking at the pony rims, 91-93 5 stars. Ford opened up the diameter opening in the front fenders from 90 or 91 whicever for the larger 16inch rims. Just adds a little more clearance, I haven't heard of anyone wiht earlier models having issues, but if you wanted to you could change out just the fenders, and have the same thing as a 91-93 car.
The 93 Cobra and 84-86 SVO's had the same taillights as your 86 except for the fact that they had black lines painted in the lenses, I'm sure there are Cobra and SVO dedicated pages that would tell how to replicate that, without the expense, and it's much different than the 87-93LX tails everyone else has done.
But yes you can put any fox body tail lights in your car.

You're ditching the 86 tails? You shouldn't have any problem getting rid of them, they're actually usually pretty hevily sought after. Would definately keep those and give them the cobra treatment rather than switching to newer ones. And please stay away from the cheese-grater lights.

I prefer the 85-86 tail lenses to any 87+.

I had an '86 3.8. Just having a 6-cyl 4-eyed Fox was cool cause around town, all the 79-93s I ever saw were 2.3s or 5.0s. I had ideas about larger injectors, building ducting into the air-cleaner and even putting an 8.8 with 3.55s. But I sold it before doing ANYTHING to it. If I ever have a couple grand to burn, I'll get one in decent shape to mod.

I was looking at some clear tails and clear covers for the front lights. They cover the outside and not mask the lights, and i was looking for some matches for the tails.

Thanks for suggestions.
