Hey guys I need to increase the ratio of coolant in my system to protect it for winter storage (getting a jump start). Now if I open the lower valve on the rad (petcock) and allow it to start draining, then while draining...add coolant to the rad untill I have added apporox 3 quarts of coolant, do I need to burp the system..??I HATE burping the system..always make a mess and takes me forever.

Just run the car with the heater on full blast (if you have a heater) and fill it slowly, you'll be fine doing it that way.

All you need to do is drain out your radiator an then refill it with your new coolant ratio. Start the car and turn on the heater. Once it comes up to operating temperature the thermostat will open and you will have to add more coolant.

Fan works..but the heater..nope..why exactly does the turning on of the heater assist in this.

IT just cycles the coolant though your heater core so you get a good distribution of the new coolant. (if your heater core is still connected that is)

You usually can get away with not burping the system for just a drain a fill. But they sell a thing called a "spill free funnel" most reputable parts stores sell them they have a radiator cap with a hole in them and adapters and a funnel that goes on the adapter and you fill it up till a lil bit of coolant stays in the funnel and just fill it up as the thermostat opens and the coolant goes down. No mess at all.
