So i'm tired of driving the mustang everyday in bad weather and all, i dont want to mess up the car! I'm probably buying my friends 1991 honda civic Si Hatchback for 1000 bucks. The car is actually very quick it has an acura integra LS motor swap, underdrive pullies, aluminum radiator, advanced timing, header, full exhaust, cold air intake, lowered and civic Si wheels oh and yea its a 5-speed. What do u guys think i know its a honda but its gonna be a beater that has a little pep and gets good gas mileage.

I like hondas for DD. They are peppy enough for a 4cyl that they aren't death traps when your trying to merge on a highway. Handle well and for the most part are on the upper end of reliability.

I own a 7th gen civic. I wish I had a 6th as I liked those cars better. I feel the 7th is a comprimise on the civic platform. No longer does it handle as well and its too heavy. But I average 420-440 miles on a tank.

The way I see it the civic allows me to own the mustang. Its tough to do mods when a car has to be back online by Monday morning.

The wife and I have considered getting another CRX. That was a fun little car and I bet with some work it would be a swift little toy.

As much as I hate to consider the idea, I'm starting to give serious consideration to looking at another Honda ... although I am soooooo not getting another CRX like the one I had.

My last was an '87 CRX Si, 5-speed, and that was the most horrid turd of a car I've ever owned, period. Getting in and out of the thing was a contortionist's act for me, and I'm only about 5' 9" - I had to tilt my right leg sort of sideways to get it past the non-adjustible steering wheel when stepping in, and then sort of had to do a halfway Bo/Luke Duke style sliding-out thing to exit the car without causing myself injury. It was loud as heck inside (with stock exhaust), it handled really weird, and the thing kept leaking oil onto the clutch disc from both the rear main seal and input shaft seal (I went through three clutches in a year, it glazed them over with oil). But darn it if I don't miss getting about 40 MPG in that thing...

A Civic might be a slightly better deal, since it might have a bit more sound insulation and options (like a tilt wheel) that would make driving one a bit less of a miserable experience. The resale cost on those things is friggin' ridiculous in most areas because the ricers value them so much, so getting one like you did for $1000 sounds like a darned good score.

I'd still rather have a Focus or some other Ford product for a DD, but the 'Stang is all I've got and all I'll be able to afford for quite some time...

I would never buy a Honda Civic as a daily driver. Those cars have very thin metal and fold up like an acordian during a 5 to 10 mph collision. I've seen a Honda Accord 2 door coupe, which is much bigger than a Civic get totalled when it got rear ended at less than 10 mph. Hondas all $uck.
I'm glad that I own and drive a Mustang as a daily driver. I wouldn't want to drive anything else.

I was t-boned by an '88 Ford F250 two years ago in my 2000 Honda Civic EX. He was doing about 50mph and I was going about 30. I don't have the pic of the car on this comp but I can post it if you are interested.

End result is not only did I walk away from the crash I had almost no injuries. I was walking and talking after the hit. I had bruises and thats it. Little sore for a week but I was back at work in two days.

Point is. I think Honda's crash very well. They may take all of the hit but I perfer that to my taking any of it. I have been in two major accidents in Civics and both times I was fine. BTW I have a poor habit of not wearing my seat belt.

Both times I think I would have died if I was in my notch....

I currently drive a 91 honda as a DD. It's been a great little car though I've spent a ton just to keep it road worthy. An LS motor in it? Slap a b16 head and you're really hauling ass! I'm not kidding. You should be in the 13's with that combo. Not bad for a DD.

That wouldn't be bad for a DD. I considered alot of honda's for a DD before i bought my little truck i had it was slow as hell so i traded it on the GTP which is nice an all but i wish i didn't have the payments.

yea i think this will be a good car cuz i'm 18 so i'll fit in with the crowd haha. But the real reason i'm buying it is because i start York Technical Institue for Computer Aided Drafting and its about 30 miles one way from my house in Hanover, PA to YTI in York, PA and i'll be commuting everyday and i need something good on gas but i didn't want a total turd. I test drove the car and i hit 3rd gear and it was still spinning and i watched the speedometer roll past 80 mph and i was just thinking to myself DAMN! .. oh the car also has a racing clutch its a pretty ugly looking car but oh well i really like it and cant wait to get it!

here is what it looks like with the dummy wheels on it but i'll be getting the Si wheels which look a hell of alot better lol

*shrugs* The only thing I'd worry about in having something like that for a DD is some ricer punk breaking into the thing and either stealing the car or ripping parts off of it to throw on his own car. That, and especially down here towards the border, I hear that anything that gets decent gas mileage is a prime target for car thieves that wanna run 'em over the border to Mexico - gas prices are even worse there than here, apparently, and plus they like to ship stolen cars out overseas from Mexico.

I wouldn't bother putting fancy wheels on it. It's a DD beater. Treat it like one. Drive it, beat on it, but don't waste your time/money polishing a turd - that's money you could be putting into the 'Stang. If you want a good-looking DD, then just get a decent used 5.0 Fox and call it done. :-)

The main purpose of the car is to go back and fourth to school in bad weather or good weather and get good gas mileage. If i would drive the stang i'd be filling up every couple days and I really dont want to put that many miles on the fox. I dont mind the car is ugly because yea i know it is but i'm getting it cheap and I dont mind it that much. And the only reason i'm putting different wheels on it is because they are being given to me with the car.

How much is cheap? I wouldn't pay more than $50 for that POS. That POS has to be hands down the most popular amoung ricers in my area. I laugh every time I see those punks "showing off" in their car :notnice: . If you want that image by all means go for it but please sell your stang before you get it and remember: No civic is complete without a fart can and a body kit. BTW I commute to school every day in my stang (60 miles round trip) and I fill up every 2 days.... well worth it.

Well people around here know me as somebody who does not like civics normally unless I see one well done up not riced. This car is not riced the body is toally stock the only thing you can call rice on this car is the muffler. And oh well i keep my mustang sitting at home in the garage waiting for the weather to get nice again so it doesn't get messed up by idiot drivers out there. I have way too much money into the paint and rims and all, i'm just a poor 18 year old with a low paying job and i also cannot afford to fill up my gas tank in the mustang every couple days and pay for schooling at the same time. I do not live in california like you so my weather isn't always nice out. In Pennsylvania we do get snow usually haven't had it yet but it does come around. By the way I would not sell this because i'm buying a honda i mean common dude i'm not a ricer!

Dont listen to the close minded retards. Store the stang, keep it looking nice. Drive whatever car you want thats cheap, reliable and capable of all weather use. If you're going to school you'll need as much extra cash as you can. Put the stang in storage and play with it during the summer.

Look at it this way...in 4 years when you graduate, your car will still be gorgeous, and all the other tools that are bitching at you for getting a civic can complain about their rusted out, faded paint, oil burning piece of crap. Then grab some reciepts showing how much money you saved and show off all the parts you can buy with it.

Nuff' said. Buy it.

honda's are awesome!! I put it that way cuz they get hellacious gas mileage and they are super reliable, honda engines are like a porche they will run forever, the 5 speeds in em are great as well. Dont believe the crap about swappin engines though, not worth it ive heard vtec being compared to as boost LOL, There are dumb people out there dont listen to em!!
