Finally got my trans-cooler installed (couple of questions?)

Well, finally got the trans cooler installed on my 04' GT. I had purchased it from Steeda awhile ago, but could never get anyone to put it on for me so I just did it myself. Anyhow, I used one of the provided fittings to go into the radiator and ran hose from that fitting to the trans cooler and then from the trans-cooler to the return line on the trans. I couldn't find a fitting to adapt to the metal return line, so I just cut it with a pipe clamp and used a couple of hose clamps on the hose to secure it to the original metal line. It seems to be working fine, no leaks yet (knock on wood)! I also used some teflon tape on the fitting in the radiator to ensure a good fit. My questions are as follows:

1. Do you think that its ok to use just a couple of pipe clamps over the flexible line to hold it to the metal trans line, or should I have flared the end and used some fitting?

2. THE GUY AT ADVANCE AUTO TOLD ME TO USE MERCON III TO TOP OFF THE TRANS FLUID. I added about 1 ounce (the level on the quart bottle moved about 1/4 inch) then I realized it said MERCON V on the dip stick. Will that cause problems? The car only has 12,000 miles, but I think I might just get the trans fluid flushed and filled anyway.

1) Yes,as long as you don't have a persistent leak problem then don't worry

2)Better safe than sorry. Might cost $60 to flush the tranny but that's a heck of alot less than having to replace or rebuild it.

I asked another guy at the parts store about the difference between mercon III and V and he said that basically the V was a higher grade that has better properties like heat resistance etc. He didn't think it was a big deal since I added such a small amount, but I am going to call in the morning to set up an appt. to get a fluid flush and change anyhow, just good preventative maintenance.

Put some Royal Purple in there. That's what I use. Shifting even seems to feel better.

Yea, its for my 04'. My avatar is of my last stang, a 94 GT. Just can't make myself delete that old picture eventhough the car is long gone.
