Well I finally got some times...I've been waiting for a couple months now...had to replace clutch/fix a couple valve cover oil leaks/etc...so I finally headed to the track tonight...

Okay my excuses: I'm running literally on "bald" tires...245/50/16's...they probably have 1000miles left on them...max...I need some Dr's...my service engine light is on (could mean anything)...its been on since I did everything...and I had never until tonight went thru 4 gears in a row in my car...

Well I'm going to put down my BEST EVER run before the h/c/i swap compared to my BEST RUN OF JUST TONIGHT (first time out with the h/c/i)...

OLD "combo" (all the bolt-ons, 373's, 1.6 RR's, same full exhaust)

60ft - 2.08
330ft - 5.89
1/8 E.T. - 9.05
1/8 MPH - 78.95
1000ft E.T. - 11.59
1000ft MPH - 89.41

NEW "combo" (AFR 165's/FTI cam/bigger MAF/Performer intake/"tune up"/King Cobra clutch for grab) That is all I can think of that added power or grab...and it still has the same as above (look at sig...the same exhaust, gears, etc...) And this is full weight - 3380lbs race weight...

60ft - 2.01
330ft - 5.56
1/8 E.T. - 8.51
1/8 MPH - 84.40
1000 E.T. - 10.85
1000ft MPH - 96.69 :nice:

We don't have a 1/4 mile track close by so I frequent this track quite frequently...

On my "new" times...the reason why I had a good 60ft (which shocked me when I started to take off) is because the guy before me put that "trac-bite" stuff down and boy did it bite...

Anyways...beside on my best run of the night...I was having severe traction problems...spinning all the way in 1st and 2nd...chirping third with a little turnover also...and spinning when I shifted into 4th gear...so you can see where Dr's will help...

Even on my best run I spun in 4th gear a bit...lol...(no trac bite down the track)...

So since I drive this car everyday (only car) back and forth to school and this being my first time with the "combo"...I think it did well...as you can see I gained 7mph in just 1000ft...comparing my best run ever (before) and doing my best run of the night (after)...I'm happy...oh and I have the timing at 16* but haven't tried bumping it or anything...so their could be more left from a timing perspective...?

Well thanks for listening to all my "ricer" excuses...

Thanks to all who helped me get the car running and "tuned"... :nice:

David

Oh yeah I know it has more into it...I was shifting a bit conservative for fear of damage...but after a "WOT" night like tonight I'm not worried about missing a shift anymore and will go for it more...also this was not powershifting of course...I have to drive this everyday :)

I was shifting at 5800rpm or so...so I could go more into the powerband...and I haven't messed with the timing...or FP...

Grn92lx - Yeah these were on 105 dollar tires (new of course)...regular radials...I'm getting some Dr's sometime when I get some money...those are next on the list...if I ever could somehow figure out how to get another job this spring that pays better than the grocery store I work at...and still maintain a "college career"...I would put a supercharger on it like you...but of course after buying a second vehicle...

It was roughly 45 degrees at the track tonight...quite chilly...oh and what things did you change to get you more power?

Oh and I got to sit an 04 Viper he was running 105mph in the 1000ft...so there was more to it in the car to...but it only had 400miles on it and it was his first time at the track...not bad...:D ...I want one really bad now :nice:

david, changing out all my broken pintle caps and new O rings seemed to have made it feel quicker. Like I said, a few were broken so bad that when I pulled the injector out, the pintle cap and O ring stayed in the hole! All I did today was put in new 3923 plugs (for the blower install) new upper intake gaskets, removed all my nitrous wiring, removed the charcol cannister and plugged the vac port on the upper with a 1/8" npt brass fitting and I tightened the top shifter plate on my pro 50 because all 4 of those allen bolts were loose as hell.

I got the second car and full time job (union electrical worker) covered. I dont think I would have done h/c/i AND a supercharger on my only driver.

and you thought DR's were expensive. :)
I'm with ya all the way thought!!

That combo should be 11 sec capable, you need to figure out what the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS on for, it could be hurting performance a good bit.

The tires will help but you'll need some suspension work now to harness all that new found power.

I am just about finished with a customers car, very similar combo. 331, 9.5:1, AFR185's upgraded springs/seals, FTI cam, 75mm Bullet, 30# inj, BBK CAI, Typhoon intake (worked a fair bit), 70mm TB, 1.635" BBK headers, 2.5" offroad X and 2.5" Flowmasters, mildly built AOD. He also has a ZEX kit...

Grn92lx - Yeah I knew you switched out the pintle/orings out...but then you put "I fixed a whole bunch of crap today and power wise it feels quicker" so I was wondering what else...thanks...what did plugging the charcoal canister do positive/negative? Anyways...yeah I knew you had a much better job than me...I'm just trying to figure out if working 38-40 hours a week at a job I'm looking at and going to college the same week as work will be worth it to have another vehicle and mod money for my car...but I wouldn't have much of a life because I'd be sleeping on my spare time...

Look It's Aaron - I know my 2.0 60ft isn't good but if you read these are on bald radials...and the only reason why I got that was because of that traction bite they put on the track...I was spun the tire over in 4th gear...I know with some drag radials I could get my 60ft down to a 1.8 fairly easily...On that "best run of the night" I raced a blazer than ran a 10.4 to my 10.8 and I had a slightly faster mph (.5 faster) all because he got a 1.8 60ft...so I know I could get a 10.4 out of it...Killercanary on here runs a 10.3 I believe in the 1000' ft on his best run...

Hissin - It's okay to dream right :) I wouldn't say Dr's are expensive...just they are expensive when you don't have money for those right now :D

runningmole - Yeah traction would be nice...one of my 60fts was 3.01 seconds...lol...so yeah traction would be nice...

Rick91GT - 11 second capable? Not likely...with my full weight (a/c, power steering and all)/untuned/and this is on a worn-out 145k bottom end...low 12's will make me happy...the equivalent of a low 10 at my track...Where can I get my check engine light "checked"...a local parts store? The light comes on after about 5 seconds of starting the car...my car "squats" pretty well and can grab good if I had a good set of tires...suspension will help of course...but it won't be any time soon...right now I have MM subframes/B Springs...I need some control arms...but I'm not going to do a "drag" suspension...I like a car that can handle well...I'm going to try to get some Bilsteins within a couple months...to help fix the rough ride...

Thanks...all

Great Job David! All the parts are there. I feel you will definitely get faster as you learn more and dial in your combo. Driving practice and trying different things at the track will just make your times improve. DR's sound like a great place to start! :nice:

You'll be Flyin' in no time!

Congrats.

The car should have 11 sec power even with the full weight...of course a little weight loss would help.

I know my local Autozone scans them for free or you can blink the code out yourself if you do not have a hand held scanner.

If your going to school, i'd put more time into that rather than trying to work more hours at some part time job. Work what you can afford to do while still having enough time for school/HW and a life. If you do nothing but school and work full time hours, your gonna be a zombie man. Btw, what are you going to school for? Only reason I remove the charcol canister was because it has to get moved anyway for the blower install and its one less place to chance a vacuum leak with the way it was hooked up. I didnt notice any + or - effects besides that it stores a code.

89sleeper - Thanks...Yeah I'm going to have to try to mess with the timing and all but like you said I need some Dr's...I know if I would have ran another time or two (the track closed right before my last run because of how cold it was getting)...I could have hit 98mph as is...assuming I would have hit all the gears at the right time...

Rick91GT - Yeah I figure the potential is there but it isn't going to happen with my "daily driver" setup...I compromised somethings so I can drive it everyday comfortably and reliably...

92GreenGT - Yeah I'll either scan the codes with a paperclip (I'll do a search for Jrickers post...it is everywhere)...or I'll go get the codes read by a autozone or something local...so when you going to get times for your car Dave:)

Grn92LX - Yeah Mike I know that would be "of the better" but I have an addiction to spend most of my money on my car :nonono: ...I should have never bought it :D I'm going for a Business Management degree currently and I'll have money later on because of that but I'm only young once? I'm a fulltime student. The job I was looking at is a stressfree job and pays double what I get now but I would have to work everyday of the business week (2x more than what I'm doing now plus getting paid double) and go to school on the same days but I would have the weekends off...More money for car/another car/and other things vs. less stress and more life?

Well I think I'm going to try to go one more time before they close for the winter depending on how my schedule goes...I doubt I'll be lucky enough to end up in a pile of trac-bite again...so I'll look for mph gains...I need to practice on it...

Thanks again...

Well when I went out to my car this morning (to go to school)...I looked at my area behind my back tires and there is rubber pieces of the tires all stuck to the side of my car (on both sides)...if that lets you know how bad the traction was on a couple of those runs...I burned them...lol...the rubber was literally flaking off...

Well I'm wanting to get some Bilsteins for my car here in a couple months (should be on)...will that affect the "take-off" capability...my car squats pretty good right now (worn-out...rides rough when I hit a bump)...so I figure the Bilsteins will hurt...but I'm going to get some DR's to counter...

Also my brakes are getting pretty pathetic now...I realized how bad they were when after I crossed the line you have to get on the brakes pretty good and it has just lost its feel and I have a couple good little grooves in my rotors...It all happens when I don't have no money :D

2.0's on bald tires aint too shabby :nice: Get yourself a pair of Nittos,,Ive got about 16--18000 on mine, and they still have a couple of thousand left on them.(only have about 11 passes on them) If you can get them down to 1.8,,1.7 or better,,your gonna have some smokin times :nice: Hows the cam sound? Is there more top end,,or bottom end?Definitly get some suspension work. You dont need 90/10's but a little work you could live with!!

Well the 2.0 60ft was kind of based on luck...before I was just spinning, spinning, and more spinning...I even had guys coming up to me after my runs telling me how bad I was...not like I already knew :) ...well anyways I just happened to be behind a car that put trac-bit down in the lane I was going in...and well it shocked me when it grabbed and I just kept on it...spun some in second...spun them in third and felt the tires pull over a bit in 4th (no trac-bite) down there...

Yeah the Nitto's will help...that is what I'm going to get (245/50/16's)...

I'm not going to go with any kind of "drag suspension"...I like a car that handles real good also...so I'll probably just go with some control arms and that is about it for straightline...but I got to get some money first...insurance and some college things have came up so I got to take care of those...

The cam sounds very nice...I have as much (actually more) torque than stock...the midrange seems slow compared to the top-end pull...but that is expected because I told Ed I wanted a cam combo capable of getting 110mph in the quarter so you got to give some to get the pull and of course the AFR's have a lot to do with the pull up top...

I must have burned enough tires off my car that night at the track because today now from a second gear roll it spins pretty badly...before if I rolled on it in second it wouldn't spin...so their getting worse... :(
