I always hear about people who "track" their old car down and buy it off the owner... but how do you do that?.. i sold my car a couple years ago and would do and pay anything to get it back. I'm trying to find the VIN, but if i can't... is there a way to look it up at the DMV/BMV?

that or sometime you can walk up to a frendily officer and ask him to run that vin...he would be able to tell you where the car is registered at and owners name and last know address.

If you go asking a cop about the vin i highly doubt he'll tell you any info on it.He'll probably think you want to steal it back or something.

well i have a family member who is a cop so he trust me ...if you go up there with an old insurance card of your with your name the vin number and say i had to sell this car years ago because of finacly reason some cops will help you out..other will say bug off...another thing to look for is find a cop who has a car that means alot to him...then they understand more,,,but dont stock them...they dont like that

Yeah, I can't imagine they'd like being put up on a shelf. If you stalk them, you may wind up with some holes in you that you didn't originally have though.

Your best bet is making friends with a cop.

I wanted to do that about 1-1/2 years later. The kid told me he was gonna baby ther car when I sold it....yeah....no......I just happened to see it in the future....not intending to buy it. Well, from far I was like yeah I'm gonna buy it.....but when I got out to look at it again....someone backed into the quarter, the front bumper and I don't know why....but I had new exhaust on the thing...I look underneath, and he cut the tailpipes off and the mufflers were up there with coat hangers!!!! It sounded awful when he started it. I would have gave him less than what I sold it for that is for sure.
