I know everybody is stepping up to bigger size rims.
I still have 13" rims and will need to replace tires soon.
Where can I locate? What brands are available? And if I want
to increase the stance, put bigger tires on rear, what sizes do
you recommend?
I guess I assumed 13" tires where getting harder to find.
I currently have cooper cobras and thought they where no
longer made. Just wondering what others where using.
I was just a a tire shop yesterday getting 2 fronts for my POS Saturn, asked about the 13s for the Mach- they said they "Might" be able to special order them, they didn't have a listing anywhere for the 195-70 13 on the Mach. They were going to call around and get back to me. They said a lot of 13' sizes are hard or impossible to find anymore, and some of the 14' sizes are starting to get that way too
looks like more $ to be spent on getting larger rims and tires to fit them
Yup...any tire not popular on front wheel drive cars is a pretty low production item.
I have a set of aftermarket 15x7 Fox wheels to play with, and there are already only a few performance tires to fit them other than the stock size of P225-60R-15.
I did find a couple of brands with P225-50R-15 tires, but none in the newer high-performance designs, and none in wider widths like P235-50R-15.
Well that sucks.
I know were not going to run those itty bitty sidewall tires, neither one of us like the looks of those on the older cars. Maybe we should buy 2 sets when we get them, that way we'll have enough to last forever.
I saw a Cadillac, ahh heck, there new SUV whatever it's called, with these huge ugly chrome wheels on it, my god it looked like chrome wagon wheels. YUCK!!
Cooper still makes the Cobras in 195/70/13 and 205/60/13. I recently picked up a set of 4-lug Keystone Klassics in 13" so it looks like I'll be buying a couple more sets of tires this summer.
Super Star Radial GT, Winston, Cooper Cobra, and Michelin Weatherwise Sport( however Michelins are not white letter(sucks) but will last a while), and General Tire. these are some still available in my area (Virginia).
I use the same size as a II on my Honda beater, and they are getting harder to find.
Wonder if Coker Tire will / does offer them ????
I know this thread is a little old, but more info is better late than none... currently, I am running 185/70 R13 by Pirelli, the P77 's they have a nice wide tread and look sweet from behind like i have 9" wide rims.. a little smaller than stock but doesn't affect my speedo much, maybe 2mph at 60??
I need to look into getting some 14" tires for my new rims i picked up (similar to the lace style but are black have crome around the edge, that are as close to 195/70 R13 so that is doesn't f*** up my speedo, but have a nice wide tread... not something that is going to be the same size but skinny and weird looking any sugg.??
You want to see something that "looks" wide? Try a P205-60R-13 on the stock wheels!
The general rule of thumb for maintaining tire/wheel diameter when increasing wheel diameter is to decrease tire sidewall ratio one series for each increase in diamater inches. So for a 1 inch increase from 13" to 14", decrease your sidewall ratio from 70 series to 60 series.
The trick is that 2 tires of the exact same size may have different rolling diamaters, so you'll have to measure your current tire/wheel package and compare to a chart provided by the new tire manufacturer. If you can't find the sizes on the web, the tire retailer should have them.
Unfortunately, it looks like its speedometer % difference is munged up. The tire diameter % difference looks good though. Put the stock size in the upper window and your possible new sizes in the lower window and hit Calculate.
Looks like P195-60R-14 is a good equivalent to the stock P185-70R-13, but you could go to a P205-60R-14 with only 2% diamater change.
Again check the specs on the specific tire you choose for exact numbers.
