So I got my stang out of storage this weekend. Radar detector doesn't work... It doesn't work when plugged into my other car either.
So I have another Whistler detector (almost same model) on my BMW - I figure I'll plug the dead detector into the good ones power wire and see if its the cable/plug thats at fault. It still doesn't work using the known good wire, so I figure its shot.

I then plugged the BMWs good detector back in and now it isn't working either. The broken one must have blown a fuse or something. I dunno.

Pain in the ass. I'll deal with it at the weekend I guess.

Is there a fuse in the connector plug, or is it a hardwired detector? If it plugs into the lighter, than most of time those plugs have a glass fuse inside. Did o try that?

Doesnt explain why it wont work in another car, but in my experience Ford's just LOVE to blow the cigg/acc. socket fuse. Used to make it a real PITA when I worked at lincoln; I couldnt tell you how many fuses I had to replace just to pull codes for a CEL because they like to use the same circuit for the DLC.

They work as long as you're not the only car out. I've almost bought one just so I don't have to worry so much on my morning commute to school. Most of the time someones already been pulled over and leaves me in the clear but it would be a nice peace of mind. Obviously if you're alone though it only takes .02 seconds for him to blip you and you're effed before the detector even chimes.

I've been driving for 11 years and I've never once had a ticket. My insurance is CHEAP. No one can tell me these things dont work! Worth their weight in gold IMO!!

Sounds good. Keep doing what you do. All I know is, after I got my radar detector I got 3 tickets with it. I got rid of it (still drive the same way) and haven't gotten a single ticket after that.

Are you sure it was a radar detector and not a beer can taped to the windshield?
