Just wanted to see what the first mod to make to the tranny in a 99 gt would be best.Shift kit? Stall? Does anyone make a kit that works through the computer to firm up the shifts and make them quicker? Car is stock 3.73 gears.

Chip or tuner. You get firmer shifts and timing / fuel adjustments. More power and better shifting. Definately the best first mod for an auto aside from 4.10s (and youll need the chip or tuner for them anyway). You need 4.10s. You really need 4.10s!
Transgo shift kit is great. Make sure anyone working on your tranny knows their **** tho.

A transmission cooler is also a great add-on to an auto transmission.

A tranny cooler should be the first mod after driving off the lot in any automatic, whether it be a muscle car, pickup truck, whatever.

If this was my car, the first thing I would go is:

1) J-Mod, flush & refill with mercon V, & add a tranny cooler
2) Hand-held unit or chip

You want to stay away from that Trans-NO-go-**** kit.

all this plus a stall converter. i like PI converters myself.. around 3000-3200 stall

dont fear the gear or the stall in a auto car. 3200 stall is really not big i know LS-1 F-body guys with 3800 stall converters on stock LS-1's

and dont forget a good trans cooler.

I like the SCT Xcal 2 myself, for info on the J-mod for the 99 and newer 4R70Ws go to www.crownvic.net, click the tech link and click 4R70W late model transmission upgrade. With the right parts the 4R70W can be a serious performer

First mod should be a tranny cooler. Then when you realize how expensive high stall TC and such is, start selling your blood
