Hi guys,

I bought one of those Beltronics performance meter things (like a G Tech). It is quite reliable from what I have seen and the testing I have done (although limited).

Anyways, this is my best run (out of 5):

60 ft. 2.23
330 ft 6.23
1/8 9.45
mph 75.5

Roughly, this converts to a 14.74 in the 1/4. This is my first time at "the track" (dead, empty contry backroads with no houses). When I shift to second, it gets a bit squirelly and I can feel it step out ABIT. Should I shift easy and then get on it to reduce wheel spin?

Runs were done with 1/4 tank of gas, about 77 degrees outside, semi-high humidity, and 33 psi in the tires, (I know!), and a fairly hot engine.

I know, I know ... practice, practice, practice. Is there any other tips you guys could give based on the times above?

Thanks!
Matt

Go to a real track and find out what you can really run

those meters tend to be big piles of crap. so, hit up the track before you start working on stuff you "need improvement" on.

You need to get to a real track.

But your sixty needs to drop to atleast a 2.0-2.1 to get you down near a 14.0

2nd gear is a feathered clutch like the launch. Don't lift out if it starts to slip just feather the clutch.

9.4 is great for a stock GT. But you need to go to the track to get a "real" run in. Those G-Tech things are fun for playing around with, but cannot give REAL numbers like a track would.

Please don't ever quote a g-tech...

9.4 isn't great either, I ran a 9.3 when I cut a 14.5 at the track.

Damn, some of you guys are harsh. LOL.

Anyways, I would have gone to the track but I work many many hours, and have barely any time to do anything, let alone drive an hour to the track.

I bought the accelerometer to basically give me an idea of how fast I will run, when I do get to the track. Also, it helps me practice, by providing better feedback then guessing or "going by the feel."

Thanks for the comments.

ok some of these guys are being a little harsh on you and the meter. the meters are ok as long as you find a perfectly flat 1/4 mile and you have too remember your 1/4 mile speed will be high due too the fact that meters give you the exact speed at the end of the 1/4 where the track is a average speed in the trap area. thats why it's called trap speed. i find the G-tech too be very accurate as far as the ET is concerned.

as for your driving. lower tire presure too 27 or so and ease the cltuch out at around 3500 rpm.. after a lot of practice you will get those 60 ft times down a little. and shift hard and fast. in good air ( near 0 DA) you should run in the 13's

i don't run with G-techs much anymore because i now live closer too the track than too my friend who has the new G-tech. but when i did play with the G-tech it was a decent tool if you can't get too a track.

Finally someone who understands! lol.

I did launch at about 2,000rpm. I got on it too early and spun almost all through first gear and chirped second hard. That resulted in a 2.40 60 ft. But when I get a bit of wheel spin from slipping out at 2,000 rpm, I can manage a 2.2 60 ft. Which I think isn't too bad considering my tire pressure (33 psi) and the ****ty old country roads with some rocks and crap (didn't realize till later). I'm sure at the track with practice, I can hit 2.0's.

Thanks for the advice.

your going too get better with practice. when i first drove this car i did not do too well with it. i got good times with my camaro and my turbo buick but this car was different. too low it bogged too high and it smoked them . it did not help i was practicing in the winter either.

well anyways try too go out late at night and find a good straight flat area thats safe too practice on. and you will get the feel for it. good luck!
