well I took my 98 cobra and I'm disappointed. My first time ever to the track by the way.

My best run was a 14.6 @ 102mph with a 2.5 60ft.

A friend of mine and I will be cleaning the imrc's. Never been cleaned before. Also I started to search for some slicks. Any recommendations are welcomed.

sticky tires...plus lots of practice...

Are you just dumping the clutch or do you feather it out when you launch?

Try launching your car at about 2000 rpm and then ease into it til it grabs. If you can get your 60's down and practice more you should be able to hit mid 13's. Good luck

I feathered it on my first try which was my best run.

Dumped at 2,000rpm but spun till 3rd on try 2 on spun through 4th on try 3.

I avioded the waterbox, but pratice is what I need. I was told from some guys there that having 4:30's on street tires was a big mistake. The though my times would have been better if I had the original 3:27's

I'm going again in 3 weeks.

Yep, street tires and any sort of gear 4.10 and lower doesn't mix well at the drag strip...DR's would be your best friend...

What are some good tire recommendations. Still running with the stock 17' rims.

I've heard lots of good things about the Nitto 555 DRs

Yep, if it's a daily driver and you drive it in the rain, Nitto DR's are probably your best bet as they still give relatively good wet traction and still have a good street life at about 15k miles depending on how much you beat on them...275/40/17's will fit the stock rims just fine...Or if you want something a little more sticky, you could get some 245/45/17 BFG DR's or the new Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials...But I wouldn't try driving in the rain with those last 2 since they really don't have much tread to them...

I agree with you on having issues with street tires and 4.10. I have to baby it off the line or spin city!!! BTW Missouri_guy197, how did you get a 12.8 ET with only 300 RWH? I would think for that, you would be closer to 13.2 with your 60' times. A 400 HP '03 would be lucky to pull 12.8. Just curious

Launching the 4.6 4V at 2000 is bad....that is nowhere in a torque/power curve like the 5.0's.

I launched mine at 3000 on littos feathering the clutch and got a 13.7 stock.

There's cars with similar HP going way faster than I have...JIMSVT over on Corral only puts down 326hp in his 98 Cobra and he's gone 11.31@120...400hp 03's that only run 12.8's need owners that need to learn to drive...plus remember if you are located where your screen name states, the air up there is a lot worse and I'd probably only be a mid 13 second car...

There's a local guy here too that has a car almost identical to mine that made 10 less hp and he went 12.41@109 with a 1.71 60'...I still think my car has a lot left in it esp with the 4.56's I have waiting to go in...

I have 4:30's. People said it would have been easier for me if I had the stcok set.

Might want to consider a shaft upgrade, before you break something with too sticky of a tire. My tires just roast if I dump the clutch almost anywhere (rpm's) of course I just had to have 18's though.

gotcha. I am about to put those in mine.

still...spinning through 4th??? I don't doubt that you might be, you might look at your clutch though too...unless the track is crappy, it might be slipping.

maybe, what happen was my rpms where really high in fourth at about 6,000rpm then all of a sudden dropped to about 3,000rpm which to me at least I would think that that's when the tires finally looked. I heard of bad track prep but I don't have any experience in that. So I wouldn't know

I agree with 98SVT that if you are spinning in that high a gear your clutch might be slipping. The one time my 00 procharged GT I had spun through three gears the clutch was gone and had to be replaced. I do believe a 400 RWHP cobra can do much better than a 12.8 in the 1/4 mile.

It was only that one run. But in the morning the car scratches when i shift in 3rd-4th gear Then it stops. And this is when i drive very carefully. Not hard or anything.

Scott (rsw007) goes 12.8s in an AOD that puts down 225 rwhp.
