Fitting up my elbow, damn ever check the mismatch in there?

On my trickflow elbow that i have bolted to my explorer upper, i looked inside and wow i was amazed at how much of a mismatch there is, i mean the elbow is actually larger by abut 5mm on all sides of the intake port, i dunno if this happens on better, or other intakes, but on my explorer it did. what i did was take and use a crayon to mark out the size diff, then i went to work with a dremel and then a sandpaper wheel. its now smoothly ramped in, and the whole entrance to the intake is shiney and smooth, there was actually a large amount of casting buildup on the bottom of the hole, about at least maby 8mm of rough jagged buildup from when it was made, that would have blocked some flow for sure, wish i got some before/after pics, but oh whell. This is just a fyi, maby you guys should check yours out if you havent, cause that i bet will pick up a good amount of power if it has smooth airflow lik ei have it now.

Probably because the Explorer manifold doesn't have a 70mm opening like the Edelbrock upper.

I had to do the same thing on my Explorer intake too! But ... I used the Trick Flow SN95 adapter and it's opened up to 75mm!! I took A LOT off the upper when I did mine!! I made mine all flow together and ended up porting the hell outta my upper and lower. It seems whenever you open everything up like that, you lose lower torque and gain big increases on the top end. If you dont already have it all together yet, keep porting the lower and gasket match it to the head by using the gaskets as a guide. On mine, the gaskets totally matched the head side, and I ended up taking quite a bit of material off the lower as well. I ended up taking off SO much extra aluminum from the TB, the elbow, the upper and the lower. I had PILES of the flakey stuff all over my basement. My engine will now scream up to 6K or so and pulls hard from around 2300-5000. Good job on catching it and going for max flow!
