Flaming River is releasing a RACK AND PINION KIT for 65-70!

Okay, when I say I got this from a reliable source I mean that I have a new 2004 Flaming River catalogue in front of me as I type this. Like the title says they are releasing rack and pinion conversion kits for 65-70's. According to the literature, it will be a bolt-in no-welding kit that preserves the shock towers and frame without any cutting.

There are a few kits:

(Prices listed are suggested retail)

FR300KT($1290): Tilt steerign column 29" in length (accepts aftermarket wheel, quick ratio rack and pinion, tie rod ends, mounting bracket for rack, needle bearing u-joints, floor mount, floor bracket, horn relay, wiring adapter, cradle for mounting, DD shaft 18" in length (I'm not sure what this is)

FR300KTPL($1440): as above with polished stainless tilt column

FR300NC($995): Rack and pinion conversion kit without column and mount

FR301TB($1190): Tubular Deluxe rack conversion kit (Rack/cradle only- please note column and u-joints required for installation not included)

Here's what the catalogue says (no scanner for pictures, sorry):
"Flaming River has designed a direct bolt-in steering system that utilizes a manual rack and pinion engineered for your classic Mustang. The rack and pinion has a travel and ratio with full turning radius that feels like power steering! The best part of the system is that it installs easily using existing existing chassis hole locations. Complete kit w/ everything except the steering wheel."

The tubular rack is basically a lightweight version of the regular one.

I don't know if it's available just yet, but this means you can get the kit from any shop that sells Flaming River... so grab a copy of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and start callin'. Then call Total Control and make sure to tell them .

I can only assume that you would have to delete the power steering to use their kit, although they claim that it's "manual steering that feels like power". I'd have to drive a car that has one before I believe that last part.
Maybe they'll eventually come out w/ a power rack?
