So i was cruising down a main street today doing about 55 and someone turned left in front of me so naturally i slammed on the brakes... and since currently my ABS does not work i locked them up and skidded prob about 10-15 yards to a dead stop since the ******* was stopped in my lane waiting for the traffic on the opposite side to be clear... after flipping out and continuing to drive i now have flat spots on my two front tires it feels like they are horribly unbalanced and its absolutely killing me the car rides like ****.... does anyone know if this will level out after some miles or maybe if i put them on the back and smoke them will it help or just burn rubber proportionally still leaving flat spots.... the damn tires are three months old... BFG G-Force Sports........

secondly, as far as the ABS not working and the light being on... what would be the cause of this... i dont know if it comes up on any OBD II computers but mine doesnt read the code......

any suggestions for either??

ABS codes have to be read by the shop, you need to get that checked.

Hate to say it gut I think your tires are f'ked. Find the guy and beat him

you need new tires and get the codes read at autozone for free or at a shop your choice

I do not think an ODBII reader will read ABS codes...

Yeah those OBDII readers will not read ABS codes, only the PCM can be read by those scan tools.

as far as the tires go, swap them to the rear and do a nice burnout that might fix them, and it will be fun to do!

Driving around on tires with flat spots is a bad idea
unless you can fix your tires the way Mike said.

I have my own OBD II i know it doesnt come up on there and im a little confused by what you guys are saying...... with a different reader will a code come up for the ABS or is it just a dummy light to let me know that its not working??

im going to move them to the back see if maybe i can burn them down some to level out a little bit or at least ill feel it less if they are in the back...

Swap em to the rear and burn em down. You might have to remove quite a bit of rubber to get em round again.

ABS wheel sensors going bad are the most common cause for the ABS to shut down. Unfortunately you can either test the 4 sensors blindly by checking resistance or have it tested and reading the code.

You might get lucky with a blind test, or you might not find a thing

i think id go with the burnout idear! but thats not gonna fix flat spots. you might blow one up though! thats always fun!!!!! abs=snap on scan tool! if you have the extra 3 grand to lay down to buy one! i know i never will.

The OBDII scan tool you have or the ones at autozone are very limited in what they can test. The scan tool I use at work is a $11,000 IDS ford scan tool that only works on fords, the reason for the price difference is what the tool can do.

On professional scan tools such as the IDS you can scan for codes for every module in the car ( mustangs depending on model year has many different modules PCM,GEM,RKE,ICM,ABS,RCM to name a few) some lincoln models have over 10 modules in them. Not only can we scan for codes but we can look at live data, run pinpoint tests, control outputs with active comands, program modules and run tests like power balance, fuel injector flow tests, EVAP leak tests, ignition tests, relative compression just to name a few of the more popular tests.

So no the ABS light is not a dummy light, if it was it would be next to impossible to diag abs concerns, We use codes plus live data for abs diag without those we would be lost.
