Flex Fans

Hey does anyone have any recommendations on a flex fan?
I have a 4-Row and flex fan that doesn’t do much.
It runs cool but when I am stopped in traffic for a while it can get warmer than I like.

Anyone suggestions for a better flex fan?

I have a 4 row and a flex fan with NO shroud. The hottest it runs is 190 degrees, winter or summer.

How hot is too hot for you?

I ditched my flex awhile ago, Ive also heard nothing but bad about them. I would go for a stock clutch fan set up with a shroud or a big electric...

Make sure your fan is as close to the radiator as possible, especially without a shroud. If you have a shroud at least half the blade should be in the shroud.

I had a "high rpm" flex fan throw a blade chunk on me below 4000rpm, it cut the radiator hose and dented the hood. Imagine if it flew off while I was checking the advance on my distributor. I switched to electric. I don't want any more blades spinning at engine speed when I'm under the hood.

probably the best flex fan on the market today as far as i am concerned is the plastic ones made by flex-i-lite. they are durable, pull a bunch of air, and lightweight. that said however, i would recomend getting an electric fan from a salvage yard from a ford taurus and using that instead with a good fan controller.

Have a flex fan in my 70 and it sucks or lack of it. I am headed the electric route myself once I use my 90 as a test mule.

I have a flex-a-lite 6 blade fan on my 302 and its .060 over and I haven't had a overheating problem once.

2nd Mustang--

My car runs at about 175 all day long.
Just when I am stopped for a long time idling it creeps up to maybe 210.
Then if I start to drive it and get some air in there it goes right back down.

You didn't mention how close the fan is to the radiator, and if you have a shroud or not.

You could also put a small (12" to 14") pusher electric in front of the radiator to turn on manually when you're stuck in traffic. Doesn't sound like you're overheating, just "uncomfortable". The extra pusher should be just enough for those times.

and overheating is not an issue.
Just want it to run cooler if I am every stuck in traffic for a while.
I’ll have to look at it to see how close it is to the radiator.

Its the 1316 model. I also use the spacer to get it right up on the rad, but I don't have a shroud either.

an electric fan is the way to go. If you're a purist, stick with a stock fan, or fit a clutch to the stock fan. Otherwise, electric fans
