in the state of VA, technically any non-OEM parts are against the rules... it is just a selectively enforced law. I would not be surprised if the law existed in other places and was selectively enforced.

He probably used it as the excuse to pull you over because he suspected something else, and with nothing else to ticket you on, gave you something for that.

I've recieved and "excessive noise" ticket before...

It was for spinning tires but the cop told me I could tell the insurance it was for a stereo or exhast since it wasn't technically a "moving" violation.

I bet there are a LOT more cities with noise rules than you guys think, therefore most aftermarket exhaust systems would be illegal for db limits.

Sucks that he had to get u for that. Maybe if he pulled u over for speeding and wrote that instead to be nice but just for the fun of it sucks.

Thats what I was thinking and the fact that he is young he hasn't honed his selective skills yet. the last ticket i got was in 1998 for failure to obey a traffic sign. I think that was also the last time i was pulled over.

We have the same law here in Massachusetts. Knock on wood, I havent been bothered with my car. I think its all in how you drive your vehicle around. There are plennnnnnty of v8 trucks around here with loud exhausts, and I doubt they get pulled over. I think the rule is enforced more on the $1000 cars. Sorry to hear about your ticket.
