Flow control valve...which hose?

Hi everyone,

I have a 5.0 powered Volvo wagon and just replaced the blown heater core this afternoon. Before I button it up, I have a flow control valve to install in the inlet hose to the heater core. High RPM blew the old core and it is such a big job to replace, I do not want to do it again for a long time.

So...On my 90 5.0 V8 engine, the lower water pump hose should go to the top inlet on the heater core and that is where I should put this pressure reducer, right? I would just pop off that hose, start the car and see where the coolant flies, but I have several kids and pets and since I am working alone, it would make a huge mess...that and most of the interior is gone including the dash while I makeover the interior.

So if anyone could tell me for sure which hose to pop this $15 part in, I would appreciate it!

Thanks,
Ed

50/50 guess slightly educated would say the line from the water pump itself. The should be the highest pressure point (water flows from the lower rad hose to the pump though the block through the back of the head gasket through the heads to the front of the intake to the upper rad hose to the rad.) Heater side should be from the water pump to the intake. But then I'm probally wrong...
