Flows w/ UPR O/R X Legality Questions

I know its not legal to have an o/r x or h pipe. I live in Indiana where they dont do testing but I drive my car for work alot, usually 25K-30K miles a year. I also drive in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Missouri.

I already have the pipe with MIL's and extentions ready to put on. I am just concerned about getting a huge fine for no cats. I generally do not speed much but the sound will probably get me noticed by cops. Do any of you in the mentioned states have any problems with cops or anything.

Trying to ease my mind before I put this thing on.

I wouldnt base your decision on just what I say, but from what I hear, not too many cops are going to get down on the ground to look under your car for cats. Ive also heard you can get some heat shields welded onto the pipe to look like cats. I guess youd be ok as long as you dont have emissions. Good luck

I live in the Chicago suburbs where there is cops everywhere and we get tested for emissions. I have the same setup you are talking about. UPR offroad x pipe and flowmasters. You won't get any fines. I've been stopped in road blocks and they have never looked under my car. I just turn the car off whenever I get pulled over.

I also have the upr off road x and flows and live in west central illinois, and haven't gotten pulled over once since I've had the setup. Also went to the ozarks in missouri for vacation and didn't have any cops bother me there either.

well here in VA they do look , they will crawl under your car , they will give you a ticket , but they can only write you for improper equipment which is about a 25-50 dollar fine and 39 dollar court cost , but if you tell the judge you fixed it since you got pulled over and say take a picture (hint take the picture before you put the O/R pipe on ) of the cats installed he would probably drop it to just court cost if not drop it all together since to him you fixed the issue LOL ......

Just have 2 heat shields from the catalytic convertes welded over the pipe. They'll never be able to tell. :nice:

If you pass emissions in the state you live in and your and your state does not have emissions laws, then your inspection sticker is good for whatever state you drive in for the year. For example, if you live in Indiana and have passed emissions/state inspection with an O/R X/H pipe and a cop in MI pulls you over and says " You ain't got no cats on dat thang!" He can't cite you for that. Your state doesn't require it. You can get cited if you lived in MI..

i live in WV, but i drive through ohio & kentucky all the time. no problems with either state there at all :nice: i have a full exhaust with no cats, & half the time the cops will follow me just at my bumper to hear my exhaust :D i guess we have a lot of stang lovin' cops around here :D

more than likely they were running your license plates, checking for outstanding warrants or tickets :rlaugh: :rlaugh:

A cop can certainly write you ticket for not having cats whether or not you passed emissions somewhere else. It is a federal offense to remove or tamper with the emission control system. In NY there have been a couple of people that I know about who have been caught without cats and they have had there cars impounded. If a cop only gives you a ticket for not having cats you are extremely lucky. By the way, the way they check here for cats is with these mirrors on a stick thingys. I decided it was better to be safe than sorry and ended up having some cats welded on my setup. I didnt really notice any sotp decline in power, in fact I think I may got some bottom end back. The car doesnt sound too terribly different with the cats either. The car actually seems to have a lower tone than before. The longer I live in NY the more I feel like Iam living in a police state. I do not feel as free as I did in CA.
