fluid flushing

I know this is going to sound like a very very stupid topic, but I have a friend that is trying to tell me how supper important it is to flush all of the fluids in a car after like 60-70K ..... like radiator, trans, rear end... powerstearing, and brake system..... I was just wanting some other opinions.... I can see maybe the radiator, and the powerstearing, because since you are opening them you run the chance of letting in dirt and crap, but the other seem....a little over the top. so is he crazy, or am I just stupid?

Changing fluids every 60k is very cheap insurance. Transmission and rear end in particular. Over time, the oil collects a lot of metal from normal wear of the gears as well as losing it's viscosity. Brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs water) unless you're running synthetic. If it is not changed periodically you can get rust in the caliper bores over time. Power steering is probably the least critical, but worth doing if you're doing the rest.

I got a -20,000 mile 1993 Saleen from my wife for Christmas this year. The first thing I did was have all the fluids changed.

:Word: Don't pay the ridiculous prices that dealerships want you to pay for fluid "flushes". They'll tell you that they have a great machine that will suck out all the old stuff, run some snake oil through it and then fill it with nice new stuff. This is complete and utter . I know. I work in a dealership. These machines are marketed as "profit centers" by the companies that make them. Either do it yourself, or just take it down to your local garage. It ain't rocket science.

thanks for the info... good to know... it is currently in the garage untill the weather gets warmer, so then I guess it will go to the local garage.... hmm mmy post count never seems to go up.... strange...
