fmx to c6 swap question

I believe that the 351c used the large c-6. the windsor will need the small one. unfortunately it is not a simple swap of bellhousings, the c-6's were all one piece. I just happen to have a c-6 with the small housing that I could be persuaded to part with. As far as I know it has no problems, I bought it just incase I needed it, but now I don't.

If the c6 was bolted to a 351C, it will bolt to your Windsor. Just be sure that its a 351C and not a 351/400M. The 351/400M use a BB bellhousing, the cleveland uses the SB pattern like the 289/302/351W's
Ditto on that. The 351C shares the same motor mount and bellhousing pattern as the Windsor.

But why do you want to get rid of the FMX?
i know there has been alot of debate on the c6 being stonger than the fmx.i lost 3rd gear in my fmx,and i can get a c6 from a friend with a few thousand miles on it for $400.00.way cheaper than i can rebuild the fmx.i take it you like the fmx better than the c6,i really dont know one way or the other.i've just always heard an fmx wont stand up to 400+HP.

I'm neutral on the FMX vs the C6. Now if you're comparing it to a C-4 then that's a whole nother story. I can see now the reason for the C6 swap. I'd do the same. Or maybe even a C4 if one was available for cheap. Not sure on the cross member though, I don't know if they share the same mount ( FMX and C6)

I'd stick with the FMX and have it rebuilt. It will handle more power than the C6 and will certainly handle the heat of racing much better. I'm just about positive the C6 is longer than the FMX which means different mounts and different driveshaft... I'd recommend putting the two tranny's side-by-side and measuring them, while checking bellhousings.

well there still seems to be some questions.i called two transmission places today.one said it will bolt right up with no problem, the other said it will not. i would sure like to save the $700 or $800 on the rebuild of the fmx by getting the $400 c6,but if i have to bye $500 or$600 in parts to make the c6 work in my 69 its not worth it.
