? for ANY '94 owner with aftermarket distributor

I have a quick question for someone who has put an aftermarket distributor on a '94 5.0: Is the shaft length of the distributor the same length as the OEM distributor shaft?

Everyone tells me it hadn't changed from the 80's length, but the one I have is definitely longer (3/8" longer). I am being told to just run the aftermarket with the shorter shaft, but I want to make sure it worked for someone else before I try. Thanks! Also, if you could let me know which company & part # you use, I would appreciate it.
 
If you are using a dist from an 80's model the wiring will be different, as the fox's have the tfi module on the dist, where ours are on the inner fender. So it wont work to begin with. The shaft lengths should be the same, as there is no differences in the block.

In all honestly there is no point to an aftermarket distributer. The only things that flows spark is the cap/rotor, so get a good msd cap/rotor, but stick with a stock distributer unless your scared of snaping the shaft, which i cant htink of anyone who has done that...
 
I just installed an MSD 9455...Thats the 94/95 model....Pulled the stocker, drop this in and it started right up.....No issues...Sounds like maybe as Jesse said, you have a Fox model with the TFI on the dizzy????

I suppose I should explain why I am asking. I am putting a '94 engine into a '66 Stang and converting it to a carb setup. The problem is the '94 dizzy is longer by .5" than every other dizzy anyone has recommended to me. Everyone says it should work, but they also say the shafts should be the same length. So if someone can confirm putting in a dizzy with a shorter shaft into the '94, I would feel more comfortable doing it myself.

RIO5.0, was the 9455 shaft the same length as the stock?

FYI, the 94 longblock is the same exact thing as the 87-93 mustangs.

Do you have this stock dizzy that is .5 inch longer? Take a pic of it next to a measuring tape, ill compare it to my stock dizzy..
 
Lengths

Don't know how good the pic will be. The lengths I measured are:

8 1/8" from bottom of "head" of dizzy to end
5 1/2" from where the dizzy seats on the block to end
1 1/2" from bottom of gear to end

Hey no prob man. Like i said before all the late model 302's are the same (longblocks, besides pistons), so any carbed dist for any of those years will work for you, do you have the aftermarket one, or are people telling you the shaft lengths??

Im Running a stock 94 lighting dizzy. (since i have the 351 based stroker)

The shaft is the same length on that as well. Only difference is the part that slides over the oil pump shaft is larger.

I actually have an '85 stock dizzy & a '78, and both are shorter by 3/8", below the gear.

Every supplier (and 5.0 person) I've talked to has said the dizzys are the same, but the fact that the ones I have are different lengths concerns me. I am guessing that the '94 was lengthened to give it a bit more strength or something. I would just try it if I had some certainty that the oil pump shaft would engage, and engage enough not to snap.
