For all that use a panel filter w/stock air box

i was wondering if any of you guys have enlarged that little hole in the fender where the filter gets its air from? just curious to see if anyone has done that to get a little more air flowin up there.

if you are talking about the hole the silencer goes through yes alot of people have but for turbo/super charger intake pipes........ it isnt worth the time or effort for a cold air intake because everything fits anyway.

I hear people just remove the air silencer.


The 5.0 air silencer was probably meant as a restrictor too?

I wonder if the '93 Cobra has one exactly like it.

I removed mine, but I think he means to like widen tha actual opening tha air comes thru to the panel filter... that sounds like a "COOL" idea

You're right, I think he meant that.

I'm not sure if this would help though.

I'm thinking as long as the smallest diameter of anything downstream (TB, MAF sensor, etc) isn't bigger than the opening left after the air silencer is removed, then air flow shouldn't be affected.

I don't know exactly how wide the air silencer is compared to TB. It does look noticeably smaller though.

I've also thought about enlarging the fender opening. It seems quite a bit smaller than the air box opening that it mates to. On my car, you can see the foam gasket imprint on the fender where flow is potentially being blocked by the extra metal. The only reason I haven't done anything is because I've only got a dremel and it would probably take a whole bunch of cutting wheels (and time) to enlarge the opening.

Nope, and until I see proof from dyno numbers that this helps, I'm leaving mine alone.

not the fender, the air box itself. the top side of the filter, the "dirty" side (if you want to call it that)
