Ok, sooo we're talking to a friend about the 73. And we were talking about how we wanted to dump the original motor and a friend wanted us to keep it. Then my husband said it was 'cause it was numbers matching. ?? I thought Fords didn't have vin matches between the motor & body?

Yes and no, there is no vin, but the part #'s and date codes would have to match if you were going to do a concours correct resto. Personally I like to build them to drive them, not to put on a trailer so I could care less if anything matches. You may want to sell it on ebay though, there is probably someone out there that is looking for that engine to do a correct resto.

Nah, it's junk-it was bored .30 over had the cylinders were out of round. Not worth it, there' plenty of other 302's out there. I knew there were date codes, and I tried to tell him there was no vin stamp, but I figured it wasn't worth a arguement.

You'd be surprised, I had a guy swap me a top loader that he had the bearings and seals replaced, painted it up nice and pretty and realised it had the wrong date code so he swapped me even for one I had in my shed. Personally i think he's crazy but to each his own I guess.:D
