If you have an Automatic transmission and you changed your rear gear ratio, what ratio did you go with - 3.73 or 4.10? And if you put 4.10's in I know that most seem happy with them, but do any regret going with 4.10's instead of 3.73's?

I'm leaning towards 3.73's because I don't really "drag" race, and there's still a slight chance that I may supercharge in the future...but my main concern right now is to gain some SOTP low-end power - my mods seem to have traded some low-end power and torque for mid-range and upper-range power, but that's to be expected I guess. Thanks for any suggestions...

I went with 3.73's 'cause I'm adding an S/C and I drive alot of hwy. If you keep your car around town, I'd go with the 4.10's. Also, while the car was n/a, I was real disappointed with the 3.73's at the track.

I love my 4.10's, but if your planning on getting a blower then go with 3.73's you dont want to have to switch them out later on down the road. But Im tellin you man, 4.10's are the best. Im also selling my Superchip Microtuner which is something you will need if you get gears. Let me know if your interested.

I've got 3.73's in my auto and I love them. I'm not racing light to light with anyone and do 90% of my driving on the highway. It's just enough gear to give it that extra kick over stock for my taste. Stock was what, 3.23's right? So you figure going to 3.73's will give you half of the jump that the 4.10's give. But it will also retain around that same half of the top end as well. By no means is that meant to be technical or accurate, just the way I kinda justified it to myself.

I too have 3.73's, mostly because i drive on the highways alot for work and school, however, i (like everyone else!) someday also hope to get supercharged. Nice and noticible SOTP feel and will help you keep up with those pesky 5spds. :nice:

Everyone with an auto says to get 4.10s, but I'm hesitant also. I think it'll be impossible to hook off the line with the stock tires and it will end up harming rather then helping.

I have the Hypertech tuner, so it will correct for the gears. Had the Superchips Microtuner, but the Hypertech program feels stronger. What are your (aprox) RPM's with the 4.10's at 65 or 70? Seems like right now I'm doing about 2,000 at 65MPH with the stock gears.

And thanks to all for the advice.

I had trouble hooking off the line even with stock gears and, of course, it is more difficult with the 4.10 gears. With the mods listed in my sig, I can easily spin all the way through 1st if I am not careful. I am going to install some Nitto 555R 245/45/17 in the rear to help with this.

But once you are hooked up, the performance gains are sound.

Regarding cruising rpms, I have read that you want to limit a small block V8's cruising speed to 3000 rpms (I am sure some people will argue with this). For 4.10 gears is about 80 mph. If you often cruise faster than this, maybe consider 3.90 or 3.73 rears.

:hail2: 4.10s :hail2:

i travel for work, generally 150mile trip (one way) and my 4.10s are fine for that. keeps me from doing 90-95 all the time so i wont get (any more) tickets :D
my trips take a whole extra 10 minutes now

4.10s are fun untill you start to pack some HP. Once you get over 300 rwhp you wont need as much gear. I went back to stock gear with 365hp and 448 rwtq.

I ran 7.75 in the 1/8 with a 1.75 60' (stock gear)

If I had the 4.10s I would need a bigger set of slicks and stronger axles. 3.55s or 3.73 would be a better choice with a blower.

Also I was shifting at the trap in the 1/4 mile with the 4.10s. My car was turning 3000rpms at 70 mph; not great on long trips.

My car would hit the rev limiter alot with the 4.10s: even with a Hypertec.

I had 4.10s for 2 years in the car. Great for under 300hp and short trips.

I have an 01 auto gt and i am wanting new gears too... Im staying N/A, no blower but i am hoping to get above 300 hp. I am leaning a little more toward the 410s for their rice roasting ability, but i am a little concerned over the highway driving. How will their rpms be at 80 mph? also, how is the pull in overdrive?

3000rpm@80mph, 2500rpm@65mph. Overdrive pulls good. Sometimes you'll never even notice the car engage overdrive because of the rpm's. What I truly like about my car and 4:10's is that @ 65mph my car echoes when another vehicle passes by. Kinda makes you wonder what they're thinking. went from 230mptank to 200-210mpt, about a 1-3 mpg loss. Not too bad...

I don't have gears yet but I'll be getting 4.10's. You can just get the ECU reflashed by a shop, get a chip burned for the gears, or use a handheld tuner that plugs into the OBD2 port under your dash and flashes the stock computer with new settings.

I was looking at getting a Diablosport Predator as I've heard only good things about them, but I might just wait and do some more boltons, then pay for a chip + dyno tune.

As far as other handheld tuners, superchips and hypertech also make them. I'm sure other companies do also but those are the only 3 I know of.
