How should i be runnin my motocraft 2 barrel carb on my 289? The weather is warm (70's). Its set on lean right now, and that was with cold weather...open to any suggestions. Also, i had raw gas spilling out of the carb and settling in little divits on the block. I adjusted pushed the float down, didnt really help, still was spillen out. All the parts on the float are fine...needle, seat, etc....obviously i dont have any carb experience. please help!

Or at least buy yourself a rebuild kit and rebuild it correctly. That's a really simple carb, and is a good one to educate yourself on. Prepare to spend the better part of a day on your first one and be methodical and patient. If you're not that patient, take D.Hearne's advice.

I agree buy a complet rebuild kit and rebuild the whole thing, Take your time and be methodical, It will probably test your patience the first time. Major problems with carbs are usually a few simple things. vaccum leak, float level,
needle and seat sticking, or idle screws out of adjustment. This is of course assuming you have a carb properly proportioned to your application. Which you do. Also check your fuel pressure, it should be somewhere between 4 and 6 psi.

Tried to rebuild a 2100 two years ago, did everything carefully like I do with Holleys, but the damn thing never did right. Ran OK, but everytime I killed the engine with it hot, it was a bitch to restart. Tried the float level and every other trick but it never was right. Bolted the used 500 I bought off another SN member and it ran perfect. Go figure.
