For you guys with flowmaster catback

I will be picking up a flowmaster cat-back soon for the stang, but I can't decided wether I want the American Thunder, or the Force II. If you have either one, what do you think of the way it sounds? I want it to sound good, but not too loud as to attract cops, the last thing I need.

I had the Force 2 with stock headers and an o/r X. It sounded awesome. Now that I got the longtubes its a little too quite at idle but up top it screams

When my car was completely stock, I thought the Flomaster American Thunder was too quiet at idle. Was quiet up until i did Heads cam and intake. Now I am getting Headers/offroad X

ive got the american thunder with a bbk x and it is loud as hell and the sound is awesome

American Thunder 40 series, BBK short unequals, BBK X (Catted)... I always get compliments, and most often drive without the radio on to hear it. I have never heard it when I was outside of the car, but I can only assume that is sounds really good. Sounds good from in the car though.

I might have to get my Dad to romp on it some day so I can hear what it sounds like...

Either muffler will be slightly louder than stock, so no issue there but you may be disappointed.

The mid-pipe is what makes the volume increase significantly and changes the whole dynamics of the sound. I'd get the mid-pipe first and then decide on volume and overall sound. You can quite a mid-pipe with the right muffler and add more volume with other mufflers.

If you want a mean sound, but not too loud, get a catted H or X and one of the quieter mufflers. No matter what, when you romp on it things are going to get loud!

well when my car was pure stock i gutted the cats, both on each side. 4 all together and went with the american thunder and a k&n filter. everyone use to ask what kind of motor work i had in it. if it ran has good has it sound i wouldn't have pulled the motor out lol but with a stock gutted h pipe shorty headers you will be please at idle and defintely when you get into it specially if you have a friend drive pass while you hear it go by

i had o/r h-pipe and 40 series mufflers. assuming american thunder is 40 series right? before that i had 50 series mufflers with stock h-pipe. was too quite. got the sound but only at WOT. idle was just a bit louder over stock. stepped up to the 40s and the h-pipe, and it was nice. loud but not too loud to be obnoxious on long rides.

I have the 40 series, I never knew how the stock ones sounded because I got my car with it already in. Anyways, I'm real satisfied with my 40 series it sounds real nice. I had a headache the other day and it was not fun to drive in my car though. When your inside you will just heard a deep hum. But the other day, my dad drove out of the driveway and down the street and they were pretty loud. I'm going to buy an o/r x pipe. Do you guys think the x pipe will make my car A LOT louder?

i have 40 series(im pretty sure) off road H and shorty headers. Sounds amazing! but i dont have the cat back anymore, swaped it for Turndowns because i couldnt align the pipes and it drove me nuts. But i reget it because the drone is killing me from the turndowns.

also flowmasters rust like no other. i think they make them in stainless, which is a good investment. Im swapping mine out for dynomax super turbo's soon and see how that works out. I'd run open headers all day if i could

i have an o/r x and the american thunder catback. it has noticable drone. i run tailpipes, but started with dumps, then ran tails, back to dumps, to straight out the muffler (loudest), back to dumps, and now finally back to tails. with nothing but the mufflers back there it is crazy loud, especially at steady higher rpms 2500+. i couldnt take it (and im only 19) so the tails went back on. overall however, i am very happy with the sound, especially with dumps, but for daily driving and frequent cell phone conversations (i know im bad), the tails had to go back on.

Bought it at Indy Auto Racing on Route1 in MA.

I agree with not getting mufflers until you get a new mid pipe. I made the mistake of getting 40 flows on a stock h pipe (4 cats), and it isn't much louder than stock. BTW, an H-Pipe will make it louder, but the x will flow more.

I think that I will get the catback first, since I have an original exhaust, except the drivers side muffler was replaced before I owned the car, and now the passenger muffler is failing. I figure its a good excuse. Thanks for the advice guys, I think I will go American Thunder.

I have American Thunder catback(H-back) , Mac LT's and H-pipe. Quiet at idle and insanely loud at WOT.

You should man, it sounds totally badazz outside the car. I let my friend drive my car to see what it sounds like. It sounds so much better when you are behind the car.
