Ford cut backs

I have been told by three dealerships in this area that they have stopped taking orders for 2007 Mustangs because Ford has cut them off untill the 05, and 06's are cleared off the lots. I was also told that the Mustang GT production was one of the cars on the chopping block for production because the direction was for better gas milage cars. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I posted sometime back how FoMoCo needs to scale back on the SUV's and Trucks and start making some gas savers; I got flamed I was told how people need these gas guzzling tanks and they are selling like crazy, and Ford is going in the right direction, and they won't go under etc... As far as the Mustang is concerned it is a good seller, so I don't see it going away. It's the SUV market that has tanked and I knew it would.

It is more likely that Ford doesn't want to give a dealer who isn't selling well. Any more cars that will just sit on the lot. I am relatively sure Ford knows it would be making a HUGE mistake killing any mustang production off. Hell they need the GT's still being built for Shelby's new GT.

The SUV market hasn't tanked, it just changed. The big sellers are the Crossover SUVs. Have you seen the new Ford Edge? That is a huge step in the right direction for Ford, and with the Focus to be updated with the Mazda 3/Volvo S40 platform, the new 3.5L V6 coming out, a 2 door Fusion, and the Fusion, Mustang, and F-150 selling strong, Ford has a better chance than GM. The next step I think Ford needs to take is redesigning the Escape and Ranger and updating the 500 to a sedan more like the 300C.

Ford has like 4 different plants building the F-series trucks. They could scale that back to save some money for sure

The Ford Edge is a great looking crossover SUV. I've seen a few "early" models running around Detroit. If the MPG figures are good and the price low enough, Ford could have a hit on their hands.

The Fusion 2door will be cool. Maybe put a little more power under the hood and offer a V6 + manual trans option and they could have a hot seller as well.

The Mustang is currently the only bright spot. I also read in the paper that Ford will be releasing 6 new models over the next year? maybe those are the ones mentioned in the above post?

When I said "tanked" I meant the "big" body on frame ones. Your post is spot on the smaller "crossover" SUV's are just what the doctor ordered.
For the most part, SUV's of the past ended up in the hands of a single driver or a mom with 2 little kids. They are just big guzzlers taking the kids to school. Not many people go camping in the mountains with them like the advertisements suggest
The post from way back was about Ford coming out with another big SUV and that was when gas was around $2.25 a gallon, and I thought that was high I doubt it will go below $2.50 ever again.

Fuel efficient cars are going to sell, look at the Asians they seem to be doing ok.
I have to drive a Pickup for work, it's an 04 F150 with a ladder rack and and a 8' bed. There will always be a market for big Trucks and SUV's, but does anyone think it's a good idea for ford to market a leather bound Lincoln aviator etc.. with 22' rims and tv screens for a daily driver?

And for the Mustang it won't get the axe No worries about that. Mustangs hold their value look what an old notch back fox will sell for Long live the Mustang.

After checking into this a little bit more, this is what I found out. The three dealerships I mentioned have been told by Ford to sell old inventory before they will be allowed to order new stock. Somehow this got distorted into what I was told.

That's kinda what I figured happened.

If you placed an order for an 07 I bet that Ford would accept it. What Ford is probably doing is refusing dealer stock orders for dealers who still have a lot of 06 inventory. It makes sense to me, give the GT allocation to the dealers who don't have inventory.

too bad my local dealer does not have any GTs on the lot. they also have less than 10 V6 stangs. you would think by now they would have more inventory. they had more inventory when i bought my 05 in jan 05, then they have had since.

Man the Ford bashing is on every site. Oh well, its true they have work but no one is perfect. I think they are on the right road.

i love when the ls1 guys who think they know everything about the auto industry try to bag ford on all their business decisions and mustangs in general. meanwhile the beloved fbody of theirs has been dead for 5 yrs and ill believe it when i see it as far as the new camaro is concerned. believe me though ford has some real issues with quality lately. we do **** loads of warranty all the time and get royally ****ed with labor times.
